Why your character gets reset

I think I finally understand why your character gets reset,

 

Unless you get eaten by a zombie, 

When you exit a server, your character sits down before disappearing after 30 seconds. You don't know your character is still in a game, since it doesn't take 30 seconds to get into the server browser again. If you join another server before your character has disappeared from the server you just left (30 seconds), your character gets reset

 

This is from experience of server hopping feedstands where tents spawn (Yes I server hop these, I'm tired of running for hours and not finding anything)

 

Hope this helped. If you get reset and have waited these 30 seconds, your character probably got killed by a player or zombie

last night we was near the nwaf suddenly our server was empty so we changed it.

 

i spawned perfect after the plz wait with all my gear but my friend was a freshspawn. he leaves the new server again and tryed another one but  was still a freshspawn.

 

i had no problems! BUT i waitet 30 seconds before i joined after him. he switched instant and get a reset!

 

theres something buggy with it plz open a ticket Maninthewall

I've joined countless servers with out waiting 30 seconds and never been reset, however it is possible that your friend wasn't able to connect to the main hive, this has happened to a friend of mine, he joined our server, he got the message saying it was unable to connect to the hive so it loaded a new character, I log in a second behind him but I have all my gear, he leaves comes back and had all his gear again.

Thats probably not the whole truth: I was on a server with two friends when it got reset so we rejoined. Me and one of those friends respawned roughly where we logged out (aka a place we visited shortly before the server reset) but the second one respawned at the coast with no gear.

Servers don't reset you... They get their data from the DB... If they can't reach the DB you respawn empty because the client doesn't get a reply with your character data in it. Your character date contains your location, gear, last login, character state ect.

 

What probably happend is that your friend wasnt able to reach the master db or it timed out for some reason. Its very likely that when he logs in again he will have his old character back. Mine vanished for 3 days in which i started a new character only to log in and suddenly have my old fully geared toon back.
