Recommended Posts

So im thinking of getting the game soon, mainly waiting for the steam sale to see if it drops in price. But i was wondering how good of a connection do you need to run this? I live in the UK and atm i can only get a 2mb connection and thats on a good day could i run this alright? i downloaded the free version of Arma 2 and tried playing online but took a while to connect and when i did it was laggy, i choose a server which had 60ping it was the lowest, most of them had a ?.

Thanks any help appreciated

There is a "New Player Discussion" forum...

Connection? >Decent (In terms of Ping, anything less than 100 is decent)

I devised a simple test: Find a 1080p video on youtube, if it can load at a fast rate, much faster then the time it takes you to view it, you should be (relatively) okay.

How much RAM do you have?

How many GHz can your Processor run?

What is your video/graphics card?

a 1080p video would take me a while to view i would have to leave it on for 15mins and then start watching, that a bad sign?

Just did this

Your comp specs are fine, your connection isnt the best.. but its still playable.. just find a nice low ping server and stay away from anything higher then a 40+ player servers and wait for 1.7.2 which is going to increase performance by alot.

Low population servers soon become high population servers very quickly but you should be fine with that line speed provided BT doesn't rate limit you and dump you down to 56K speeds. They did that to me on my supposedly unlimited business connection that I was paying double the price for. Bastards!

The only problem I can think of (that is assuming I'm correctly understanding the way DayZ works) would be if you aggro shit loads of zombies. When you aggro them, your CPU takes over the zombie handling from the server you are connected to, meaning that your line will be sending out lots of info on zombie like position, direction, speed and actions. So things (zombies) might get a little squirrelly for other players near you and zombies may appear to teleport short distances. Again, this is assuming that I have a correct understanding of the way DayZ servers handle zombies, I could easily be wrong and if I am I'm sure someone else will correct and scold me here.

My internet is down so I'm trying to tether to my phone at 1.5 mbps right now. Wish me luck!

Update: You need more than 1.5 mbps hahahaha
