Dayz standalone ideas pt. 2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have some more ideas that I think should be implemented into the game.

1: Whittling. Have the ability to use a knife of any sort and carve things. For example, You could sharpen the end of an ashwood stick and turn it into a make-shift spear. Or carve your own wooden fish hooks to use for fishing, as the metal ones are so damn rare. The possibilities are endless as to what you could do. This would make knives much more useful as well.

2: Outdoor shops. Considering that Dayz is based on a country that relies heavily on hunting/fishing, I would think there would be some outdoors shops around. These would have outdoors supplies such as guns, ammo, fishing supplies, camo clothing, etc. Just another lootable building.

3: ability to set snares. This would be used to catch small game, such as rabbits or squirrels. Also could have different versions of it, maybe even have human sized ones eventually. these could be found in outdoor shops and common houses, or have a makeshift version that is less effective but can be crafted.

4: more rivers/ponds. These are somewhat uncommon at the moment, if they made them more common this would make fishing much more practical. Also, once this is done get rid of some of the water pumps, and have natural water be dirty and give sickness, unless a water purification tablet is used.

5: new animation for eating. This one is pretty self explanatory. Right now it looks...uh...very primitive.

I understand some of these (if not all) would be hard to implement, developing a game is tough and they need to worry about bigger priorities first. I simply think these are all good ideas, and most would help increase the survival aspect of it. It would make fishing/hunting more practical and useful, especially if the spawn rate of canned food was turned down.

Anyway, please tell me what you think of these ideas. Also, go check out my first list I made of suggestions as well. Thanks!

Everyone thinks their own ideas are good, :P

1. I'm sure more purposes for knives will be made, I like the idea of fastening a knife to the end of a stick with some rope and using it as a makeshift spear. I mean, I don't think free-form carving will ever exist and we probably won't be able to do everything a real knife can, but they'll surely expand on them. Something priority should be actually using the bayonets on rifles as a bayonet, rather than an aesthetic piece/knife storage

2. Maybe, but typically you'd see most of this stuff in the small supermarkets around. Of course, cities like Novo, Chernogorsk, and Elektro are probably large enough to warrant specialty stores, but really anything smaller would have a few general stores or marketplaces (Berezino and Stary Sobor are also plausible locations)

3. Rabbit snares are in the game files, so we'll likely get them at some point, but there's been no word on them for awhile.

4. I'd love to see more ponds/lakes and even a river (though a river is not possible with the current engine state because of how water works) but it'd have to be somewhere that wouldn't marginalize the wilderness anymore, meaning big lakes are really out of the question. Some small isolated ponds or streams I can see working. However, I think we're going to be waiting for a new map until we really see anything major done to the terrain.

5. They've been doing a lot of work with new animations, but they're difficult to implement and at a relatively early stage of development the current animations are fine. Remember that most of the food we had when the alpha was released was canned stuff, so the animation worked well for that. I do agree that some better animations for different kinds of food would be great to have.

Overall I do like what you have to contribute.
