big_t 66 Posted June 29, 2012 Forget the log-back-in penalty. Anyone who disconnects should have their body inactive and exposed to the server for an additional 5 seconds. Thats it. Problem solved.• Running from a hord of zombies and trying to take the cowards way out: How much damage will you sustain in 5 seconds when the horde catches up to you?• Found yourself in a firefight realizing things are not going you way, trying to take the cowards way out: 5 more seconds of you standing there inactive what will the outcome be?In reality when you disconnect you should be hunkering down for the night or taking a rest, you should be in a relatively safe environment before you do that. If you take a nap in the forrest 5 additional seconds of exposed play you should be fine.If you are cowardly trying to get out of a sticky situation, well there may be consequences. Refried 14 Posted June 29, 2012 on top of that, rocket has already attempted to implement exactly thisunfortunately it does not appear to be working correctly yet, as i attempted to take out two dudes outside of Bor yesterday and they simply instant dc'd without issue
LastShenanigan 8 Posted June 29, 2012 Logging out simply shouldn't work while being chased by zombies or fired on by other players... if you're taking damage and try to logout you should get a big :P on your screen.

herd 69 Posted June 29, 2012 People will run around corners from snipers and log out there. So no. 10 seconds if you took no damage, couple of minutes if you took some damage
Keurk 4 Posted June 29, 2012 logout timer : 15 or 20secif you break the timer / hard disconnect : 40 sec -1 minute

I couldn't imagine how pissed some assholes would be if this was put in the next patch but left out of the patch notes. Guy gets shot, tries to DC and gets a giant :P on his screen. If he keeps trying to do it he shohuld get a  followed with a :dodgy: and :@. I love it. +
t3sla 0 Posted June 29, 2012 I remember rocket saying something about only being able to keep the disconnecting player's body there for 5 seconds, any more than that and it would cause desync issues or something along those lines.EDIT: Here it is:The only reason it's not longer' date=' is to avoid the issues of body duping. To get around this and have a longer disconnect time, I would need to add another level of checking. I don't have the time currently, so its something that can be expanded, but I need to do a first level test to see what the effect is.[/quote']

So no. 10 seconds if you took no damage' date=' couple of minutes if you took some damage[/quote']Forcing people to run around corners before poofing would be better than what it is now. As it is now, people don't even run for cover, they just vanish instantly in the middle of an open field that they decided to cross without scanning the treeline first. :P
big_t 66 Posted June 29, 2012 I didn't know they tried to implement it already, I just assumed my ingenious idea was a divine revelation sprouting from the very spring of original knowledge.Well how about this then: When you try to disconnect it goes to "map mode" or "gear mode" while the screen prompts : "Are you sure you want to log out?" With the __yes disconnect__ button grayed out for 5 seconds. That way you are still logged in but inactive for 5 seconds until you are allowed to disconnect.Problem solved :)

This way if you are in danger you still can run away.If you alt+f4 you SHOULD get punished by making your char stay in game for couple of minutes. The more the better. If you kill the game through task manager - the game does that for you, and pretends you're in game, and saves after the character logs outI'm not sure how the code is written, but if the saving would happen as your character leaves the world, i think it would both - save your death, and prevent duping... I think... hopeAs for your idea being the "ingenious divine revelation" - unfortunately, most of the time if you feel that way, you should search, and you may find that there were already few people having this type of revelations.I've upset myself few times with revelation that i am not the smartest guy with best ideas, by finding ideas i wanted to suggest already posted :(
