If they have their guns pointed at you they intend to kill you so shoot em or dodge.. Never let someone point their gun in your face.(One of the most important rules of dayz)
Some people have to wait till they are right next to you to shoot you else they will miss (due to bad aim).. so try to engage your conversation further away from the strangers. You will have a better chance to live.
