We pick up the story just before my last post, with me making it to NW Airfield and managing to get VERY geared along the way. I say 'very geared' on the basis that according to 95% of the mumma's bois on this forum, there is not gear, no food and no guns. Therefore making it to NW is impossible.

 

After picking up some gear in the hangers, I stumbled across this

Later that day in a nearby town, found this.

 

I also found a land mine. I took it into my hands and this happened.

If it had that affect on another part of my anatomy, my wife would have been very pleased...

 

But instead...

 

Back on the coast and found a zombie house! Someone had fun

 

And then found a magical floating bush.

And hats... hats for every man, woman and child.... and dog.... and zombie

 

Followed by many many books....

 

A while down the road, I had a drink and spotted something out the corner of my eye... can you see it?

 

What about now...

A TENT ZOMG WOAH....!!!

 

ANd then a little later...

FARK that SHIAT! I learnt my lesson.. DO.NOT.TOUCH

Then I found a chainsaw... no fuel in it though...

 

Hydrated, energized and healthy!

 

Then I posed with a cow...

After leaving the above city, I found a quiet house to chill and called it a day.

So picking up from my past installment, I made it as North as you can go.

 

Surprisingly I ran into 2 other players up here! One was very friendly and the other was very quiet so I got away quickly.

I headed along the end of the known world West from there.

 

Then South just a little bit to one of the towns just near the edge of the map. Arriving in this street and something caught my eye. Just at the top right, on the road just under the power pole...

 

This is what I found... on the road... pristine... full mag...

It took me about 5min to pick it up as I was looking for an land mine hidden under it. But, turned out it was all good... score! Random... but definitely score!

 

Back to the edge and heading East this time

 

Just one for the 'it's too hard, there is no way to survive' haters; Energized, Hydrated and Healthy. More food than I can carry and 4 pouches of water plus one military bottle.

Found this convoy at the edge of the map... looked like they had a bad day...

 

Just south of the convoy, a ruined building...

 

A little south east later... something caught my eye

 

Turned out to be a couple truck garages and also... on one of the garage roofs, a Harry Potter school must have evacuated and left their brooms

 

More South East...

 

A couple infected ambushed me at the military installation and just down the road, Farm Joe decided to chase me for a bit... I was in rough shape and down to my last three 9mm rounds so running was the only option.

After getting away and heading West... found a nice view...

 

Then I headed to the town pub for a refreshment

 

Fast forward a bit, and back at NWAF... Thought I would head to the Coast via the Airfield and also stumbled across ammo for the MP5 and my SKS so successful plan

 

Then... SHOTS! Not at me I don't think, but fairly close... Don't know why but I decided to go UP!

 

Sounds like it came from the military tents...

 

Spotted! Running away... it was a single shot so I imagine he was dealing with a zombie

 

Time to go I think...

Nice m8, i'm too travelling a lot north these days, found a mountain backpack that can hold everything i need, i also found a makarov and 45 rounds for my derringer at the NWAF.

I also met another player, fully geared, he spot me first but fortunantly didn't shoot me. I lay on the ground as soon as i saw him, there was no chance for me to evade or kill him so i just hoped for the best. He point his weapon at me for a couple of sec then run in the woods.

Now it's time to set my farm and grow some food.

I'm curious, how did you built a leather bottle? Couse i can't find canteens or pet bottles! And i need them to bring water to my plants ;)

Another thing. I log out from the server at the NWAF saturday. When i rejoined the server sunday (more than 10 hours passed since my latest log in) at the NWAF i found the exact same things i saw the previous session a part of a couple of backpack with stuff in them, one with the makarov (maybe someone got killed and those were the stuff that the killer didn't bother to carry).

But shouldn't a server restart respawn all the loot? So why was the NWAF still empty after 10 hours?

Yeah, I am thinking that once I die again, I might try and go full sustainable. The challenge being that until persistence is 100%, stuff will go 'bye-bye' eventually.

In terms of the leather water pouches, they are EASY to make. Since I discovered them it's one of my first objectives. It also means I have a whole bunch so can give other players spare ones.

Anyway, to make it you need the following

1. A knife. Steak, Hunting, or craft a stone knife it doesn't matter, just a knife.
2. A leather sewing kit. These are common enough that within 1-2 hours playing you should come across one easy
3. Some lime. I usually don't bother carrying this with me as it takes a lot of space and is common enough to find once you have they hide
4. A cow, deer or boar.

Long story short, kill one of the above critters. Skin and quarter. East the steaks raw. When you are pretty healthy I have YET to fall ill from eating them raw and right there and then. This will usually get you to hydrated and energized.

When you skin and quarter the animal, you will get meat, bones, fat, guts and... hide!

Once you have the hide (skin), you need to find some lime. You apply the lime to the hide it you will 'tan' it into leather.

Then you need the leather sewing kit. You use this to sure leather into things like a cap, pants, shirt (I think) and water pouch.

Out of one deer, you can make 4 pouches.

And in terms of your respawn/loot question. Depends on the server you are playing. The server I play only resets loot weekly I think. So this means that once I go through a town and pick it clean, I know there is no point going back there again for a while.

Bah! Don't TRY to find a longhorn. They are a pile of ineffective rubbish.

Massive sway, single short, long reload and accuracy is questionable.

I ditch them the first change I get to grab a different side arm... or even find more food... lol

So today, because my characters on private servers all died, I decided to jump onto a random, well populated public server.

I discovered a long forgotten, well geared character! So the adventure started.

I headed West along the coast.

Coming through a little town, I found a spot I suspect someone died



No good stuff really, so I continued West. Didn't meet any players but I did have a few encounters with infected. Since I had 5 MK5 mags and I know a character wipe is coming up, I was practicing my shooting with the MP5 and my mosin as I went.

All of a sudden, something in the distance on a hill caught my eye. A CAMP!

There was an orange truck with the troop carrier platform, and two military tents.

Lots of loot in the tents, but I only took what I needed. Swapped my mosin for a M4 with a few bits on it, left all my mosin ammo and 3 of my MP5 mags.

Then I grabbed the truck and set of.

Literally about 20 seconds later, this:


Seems these trucks roll a bit easier than the ones with nothing on the back. And are SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

After the above happened, I continued NNW.

During this journey, I had a few zombie encounters and this resulted in my pants, jacket and ammo box being ruined! As well as my boots.

Luck for me, while the ammo box was ruined, the ammo inside was fine. So for the time I just kept it all in there.

It was pretty barron in the area I was exploring, so I had to go East and find some towns to try and get gear.

I ended up just north of the NWAF, at the Northern edge of the forrest that surrounds the outcomes on top of the Bashnya mountain.

This is where this happened:

The whole are from the edge of the forrest to half way down the airfield was overloaded with loot.

I grabbed what I could carry, found a mountaining pack so I could carry more and moved through the airfield.

There were 3 military tents in the middle of the air strip. I KNEW it was a trap but the temptation was too much!

 

First, I moved to the tower to the West of the tents near the two warehouses and one military building.

After sitting there for 10min observing the area with my LRS, I made the suicide run:

 

The entire run to the tents I was waiting, expecting, dreading the sound of a mosin firing and the crack bullets raining around me but nothing. Not a soul.

Unfortunately, the same could be said for the contents of the tents. Completely empty.

I then tried to close the door, failed. Tried to close the window, failed.

Couldn't work out how to collapse it down.

Decided to more on and keep looting instead.

Hoping that I get a few more adventures with this character before the reset happens.

Today, was the first day I diet of starvation.

My character from the post above was bludgeon to death in the factory building outside Vbory, as I was watching a player kill others at the military base. I died to the sound of my attacker saying 'sorry bro'.

To accomplish this, I sprinted along the South coast from the spawn point to the East of Electro, all the way to the West edge of the map.

I was curious how far a player could last sprinting and not looking for food.

I did stay hydrated by drinking from wells that I happen to come across.

To all those players who complain about dying from starvation, you are clearly doing it wrong.

I did the stupidest thing I could think of, sprinting along the coast, and got that far. That same distance inland and you can easily reach about any point on about half the map. If I ran, could have made it even further.

Fun adventure, time to start a new one.

Just to fill in a few visual blanks.

 

These are the last things I saw atop the factory outside Vybor.

 

 




Just under the tree where the player is being attacked by zombies, lays the body of the player he slain. My plan was to observe and then go check it out.
 
I also noticed this to the West of the Military base, so this was going to me something to explore. It would have been looted but I haven't seen a crash in some time so just for the purposed of some happy snaps and the adrenaline of knowing I was most likely in someones scope crosshairs.


But then...


I then started my experiment with the sprinting.

The first interesting thing I came across was this guy! FINALLY, someone using notes! I read every note I find and they are always blank. I was so excited that he actually wrote this.

The next installment, using spoilers as requested by the mods.

 

We pick up my journey in a forrest where I stumble across a truck.

I jump in and head inland looking for something interesting. Soon enough just outside a town, not sure which, I see smoke!

There is a crashed chopper on the road, picked clean but something interesting none the less.

 

I continue on and in a very short time find another truck. This one is parked touching a tree so I leave it where it is.



Shortly after this, I discover that when you crash the truck into a tree, you ruin your boots and your feet hurt.

 

I start running towards a distant town when I noticed something moving in a field. A STAG!

The hunt is on as I creep up on him with my Blazer. I startle him once and he runs off but I track him down again.

Slowly I get close enough to take the shot. I scan the surrounding area on last time for any infected and then make the shot.

 

I've been lugging a bag of lime and a leather sewing kit so I soon enough create myself a sexy pair of Moccasins, as well as two water pouches.



I head into the town I was originally looking to explore. On the outskirts, I survey the area for any movement.

 

 

I don't see any movment, so move in. Soon enough I do find evidence someone has been here...

After finding very little in the town, I head West across a mountain towards the military camp. Again, scan and approach with caution.

The camp was picked clean and I didn't find anything of value aside from a vest.

 

I continue my jounrney through the forest heading South and something catches my eye

Yet ANOTHER truck, fully fuelled and ready to go!

I decide to head to the Military base and see if there is any good loot.

 

I find pump action shotguns, pistol grip shotguns, multiple SKS rifles, a Repeated, a Blazer and an AK.

I leave all of these as I am happy with my Blazer and have lots of ammo for it.

I also find a player while looking a barracks. This is THE WORST PLACE for an encounter but he doesn't charge in and makes contact from outside. He says he's friendly and not to shoot, but his voice actually sounds honest.

I tell me to stand away from the door so I can come out while having him in my line of sight out the windows to my left. (No screenshots of any of this as around another player it's a bit tense).

I come out and see if is fairly fresh, has a torn my hoodie and jeans, a small pack and a pipe as a weapon.

I have a quick chat and turns out he is starving, so I give him some food. Also he doesn't have a weapon, so I suggest he follows my back to the barracks that I found the shotgun, as I now also have ammo for for it.

I give him the food, one water pouch, the ammo and he grabs the shotty. We loot the rest of the area without incident. I found some hunter pants which I mended to be pristine and gave those to the guy too.

At this point, he asks which way I am heading and I say 'North'. Not really because I have a plan, but why not.

He asks if he can catch a ride with me and we set of.

We get to Zeleno and we investigate the Camo building. We find a Markov pistol and I just happen to have a mag for it so I hand it over.

At this time I decided I want to head South to the coast and see if there are any players than need my help, or bandits that need to be put down.

He thanks me for all the help, we wish eachother luck and part our ways.

 

I head to the coast road and set off full speed East. I promptly crash into this:

 

Turns out in DayZ, driving over a fire place it the equivalent of crashing into a concrete wall.

Both front tyres are popped, but by some miracle my boots are fine. Phew!

 

I abandon the truck and set of for the light house on foot. Thinking about stashing my gear there and making the swim across to the prison.

The next installment.

 

After dumbing the truck and getting to the light house, I head for Balota to see if I can find some players to stalk.

Every quiet so I decided to get into the ATC tower and have some target practice dropping infected.

 

The outcome of my this activity was fairly predictable and I promptly ended up on the coast and hungry.

 

 

Given I hadn't been to Rify in some time, I decided to explore it and see if there was anything left. I broke my legs on the climb up but luckily I was close enough to the edge without a railing inside the cargo area.

30 odd seconds later, I was just outside Cernaya Polana and there was LOTS of goodies left, I manager to gear up for survival very quickly.

I then head to the tower in Novo where I find another player. Friendly guy and with not much gear, so I decided to help him search the tower for some loot.



While we are looting he talks about how he's only come back to the game recently and how slow the development is. I hold my tongue and just let him do his thing.

 

When we get to the top floor, I noticed a land-mine in the entrance way. I have a look and it doesn't seem activated. I gingerly move past it and... I'm still alive.

We loot the top floor, we find a shotgun, SKS and Carbine so good pickings in terms of guns, limited ammo.

Once we are done, I decide that on our way out I will activate the landmine. I let my new friend go past and down the first flight of stairs and then I activate the landmine.

BOOM!

'You are dead'

SONOFABIATCH!

New landmine policy; never touch the bloody things! You would think I would have learnt, but the youtube videos make them look so fun.

I spawn and... OMG! I AM IN NOVO!!!

I race back to the tower and sprint to the top. I find my mate and my body in the stairwell.



I wait for a while thinking that he may have been as lucky as me and will be just outside Novo too. But after a few minutes, nothing so I decided to salvage all I can and go.

The first challenge was getting past the other guys body. I couldn't jump over it or walk past it and it was blocking the way to my body! After some fiddling, I discover that I can move 'through' it if I go prone and then get to my body.

Turns out that the landmine seems to ONLY damage pants and shoes. So I am effectively back to as geared as I was, sans pants and off on my way.

 

 

I climb to the top of the hill across from the tower and look across the valley to the church... something catches my eye...

 

And soon enough I'm truckin'

Just as I leave Svetlojarsk the server resets... so I respawn back where I got into the truck while the truck, most likely, is where I got to.

A LONG run away and I am sure that by the time I get there a fresh spawn or another player will have taken it. This is probable since just before the server reset I drove past a fresh spawn and if he decided to follow me, he would be in the truck in 30seconds.

 

So I am running, running and then... in the distance

 

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANd we're truckin'

 

 

Full tank baby!

 

Then, just up ahead of me.. another truck! The chase is on!

 

These guys all of a sudden slow and I go flying past. I decided to turn around and see if I can have a chat with the other players as the chase was fun!

But when I do return, both are out of the truck and bullets start to ricochet of the body work! 

 

I escape by doing some awesome off road driving and decided to head inland instead.

My journey is going well until I hit something invisible and burst both front tyres... from here... I'm on foot again.

Somehow, I end up at the apartments just North East of Balota

 

I decided to climb up high and watch for activity at the airfield... shortly, two players appear.  I think it's the guys from the truck!

 

The move through the airfield and keep heading West.

Once I lose them I move on North West and stumbing into a town that has a building I haven't seen before

So today I was still hanging around Balota. I ran into two players who I clearly surprised, I had my repeater in my hands while they ran past in front of me.

They saw me as we bumped into each other and where about 20m away.

I yelled out 'Don't worry, I won't shoot guys...' as they ran behind a building.

I stopped and was about to turn around to head the other way when the female came out from behind the building and shot me in the face with a shotgun.

 

Moral of the story; Being friendly gets your face blown off 9 times out of 10.
