basinox 300 Posted July 10, 2014 I think the hunger system needs to be reworked because it is currently too easy, and too vague. Have a protector case full of canned peaches and you are set for life. So hear me out. . My suggestion is to make it slightly more complex. By changing it from a 2 factor system (Eat to get healthy but don't eat to much or you puke.) to a 3 factor system: Hunger, Energy and Vitamins. Vitamins and Hunger are required to not die while Energy is required to regain blood. this way people are forced to live on more than water and peaches. It's quite simple but realistic: *A animals brain while keep crying that it's hungry based on how full his stomach is, take birds who starve because they ate something they can't digest and thought they where full. Both eating nothing and eating to much will have negative consequences. *Vitamins are needed to make you body work but having to much of them doesn't add the body a lot. These can be gained from food like Canned Sardines, Powdered Milk, or Zucchinis. *And the body usually regenerates using proteins made out of sugar and carbohydrates that also provide it with Energy. But can go longer without them than vitamins. These can be gained from food like Pasta, Rice, or Bananas. To make it easier: Current system: Hunger:Hungry - Energized Stomach:Stuffed - nothing My suggested system: Hunger:Hungry - Stuffed Energy:Nothing - Energized Vitamins:Light Headed - Nothing
Parazight 1599 Posted July 10, 2014 I haven't had a real vitamin in over 20 years and I'm a very healthy guy. Might be too much fluff, I could be wrong.
Ubernaut 297 Posted July 10, 2014 We're not talking about vitamin pills, necessarily. We're talking about players being mandated to have healthy food, rather than being allowed to subsist on a diet of Rasputin Kvass and Pipsi. Fish are a good source of one set of nutrients, apples another, and red meats, yet another. Requiring players to eat balanced diets in order to avoid sicknesses like scurvy and other nasty vitamin-deficiency conditions could facilitate trade, compel players to try new gameplay mechanics, and generally make for a more robust survival game. However, this might all be a little too hard to figure out using the game's very vague notification system. It might also be too much for the COD kiddies, whose IRL food intake is limited to Doritos and Mountain Dew.
Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted July 10, 2014 why stop there, carbs, fat, sugars add to this sugar rush and sugar crash.
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) 141 Posted July 10, 2014 It's not a bad idea imo, but the problem I have with the current system is how long it takes to starve... a real person can go 2 weeks with water alone pretty easily (people have been reported to live 40+ days with only water) -- not saying I would want to go without food that long, but right now you die in the game if you aren't drinking/eating all the damned time.

The system isn't all that relatable to real life, yet we need something there. I'd vote for something not complicated at all.

In order to heal up you need to do the usual medical stuff (bandage etc), eat something, and get into a bed for a minute or so.
doctajones 123 Posted July 11, 2014 I am sure there is an abundance of food at the moment just so people won't die often of starvation, leaving them to test and play everything else. Once the game hits, I am sure food and drink spawns will be turned down massively. As for your suggestion, it is a fine idea, but I just don't really see it as necessary. At least not yet. I think when a stamina system comes into play, eating "good" may help increase your stamina temporarily or permanently, but at this point in the development I'm gonna have to say the system is okay as is. Parazight 1599 Posted July 11, 2014 I'm confident that the team will come up with something interesting. Something more involved and difficult than what we have now. Currently, you can farm any apple tree and drink from any pond to reach perfect health status. Don't get my wrong, it's great to have it easy while the devs flesh out the rest of the game!
