The Way it should be

Recommended Posts

When you join a server you should keep all your stuff except if you die . If you change servers you should start from nothing. That would make this game great. What do you think?  Haze Rail . :P

how do you make difference between joining an changing a server?

Every server would have its own database is what he means.

inb4 private hive.

I guess he means your character would be server specific.

I could foresee a huge number of issues stemming from that idea though.

Would the host server keep track of who has what character? If so, then there would be admins exploiting that data.

If it was client side, it would be exploited by players and

If they were kept on a central server, then it would need to keep track of, at minimum, 2,000,000*x servers, all of them constantly changing. requiring massive resources.

Global loot restrictions would be impossible, but so would benefitting from server hopping.

I think there's a better way to deal with server hoppers, like temp bans for joining a server, picking up items, then switching within a few minutes, grabbing items, switching, looting, switching , looting.

Do it like 3x in a row and you earn yourself a 24 hr ban..... UNLESS the server crashes and you wait out the timer.

Well, think about it... There are too many problems, if you can solve them all (properly), you'll have my beans:

- What if your server shuts down? All your stuff is gone.

- What if you go to another continent? Your server won't be listed in the search and when you join manually your ping will he horrible. (I'm expecting that right now when playing with my friends from Europe)

- What if your Server doesn't update right after a new update? You'd have to wait until it updates, which can sometimes can take a few weeks

- What if your server changes the configuration and you don't want to play with that configuration anymore, e.g. from regular to hardcore.

- What if your server changes the location and the ping becomes bad?

I guess we can agree that it's just not useful.

Even more important, it's nearly impossible to play with your friends....

I prefer it when people clearly state their basic idea, instead of some weird solution to it (which is sadly pretty common here), because then we can work on a solution to the basic idea and not write why the posted solution is probably not working. I guess the basic idea is to prevent server hopping somehow, right?

A better solution to it would be to force people on servers (like in world of tanks) and when people want to play together they can gather into a group and then join a server together.

Lol what? Private hives used to be REALLY popular in the mod. I personally did not like them for the most part but people stuck to the server even through night. It was really interesting sometimes imo.

The only way to solve server hopping is to make loot hard to get.

Or maybe have respawning loot??

Private servers+hive has never worked for mmos
