Since I own neither the mod nore the standalone I was wondering, since if I was ever to get one I would pick the standalone, are the updates/patches for the DayZ Standalone free?

StandAlone is not finished, it's in Alpha. It basically gets patches/updates weekly. I'm having a lot of fun with it. The mod is way more polished with a plethora of more features, but the vision of StandAlone is leaps and bounds beyond Mod, even though currently Mod is leaps and bounds beyond where StandAlone is.

 

Go StandAlone.
