how bout this for bandits

Recommended Posts

just reading a threat about bandit identifiers and had a sudden thought. not sure if this has been suggested yet but there is a whole entire theory of WHY people turn to banditry... they are desperate and at their last threads of humanity really. desperate usually for food and water or supplies. why not make them a little more desperate for it. if a player becomes a bandit maybe modify the need for food and water more severe and since they are also frantic for supplies why not make it so medical usage gets doubled too (ie: 2 bandages to stop bleeding and so on...)

i know the pvp crowd wont really like this idea but, in all fairness when they sit and pick off unarmed survivors for the "fun of it" they deserve SOME sort of penalty. besides it could also have an added benifit countering this like i dunno... maybe they do slightly increased damage, or something.

i dunno but any suggestions would be good feedback but also CONSTRUCTIVE replies would help. if all people wanna do is flame well you really arent interested in helping DEVELOP this game then are ya :D

I think needing a psychological drug which non-bandits dont need is the way to go. That way we can stake out the hospitals and take out the bandits as they go crawling in to get their fix.

So if I (a person who has yet to get a single murder) need some Morphine or Blood Packs, I'll get gunned down by paranoid zealots who think I'm there for this drug that for some mystical reason you get addicted to without needing to take it in the first place.

No. I rather think not.

shameless bump for more feedback/ideas :D

Stop beating a dead horse....every possible idea regarding this has been thrown around in a million different threads. Rocket will come up with something, or he will leave it as it is.

The main problem with this is that it focuses on the few irritating bandits who camp roofs in cities and whatnot.

I am often a bandit, but I don't actively seek out other players. Being quite reclusive I spend time staking out towns and cities before entering to go to the store/hospital/apartments or whatever. I would rather not encounter anyone but if I do I will attempt to get an angle and take you out.

Im also very careful, see a bunch of dead zombies around a barn in the wilderness, give it a wide berth and move on while keeping an eye over my shoulder. It ain't worth it, anyone inside has a better angle to take me out and its an encounter I can avoid with little risk.

As such, each life, I have very few kills. Often enough to become a bandit but I tend to survive for long periods of time and encounter people infrequently. Im basically treading the line between careful survivor and actual bandit and as such this would be a massive punishment for my playstyle.

I do not kill indiscriminately nor do I actively hunt or camp others. Under this system I would have to become a bloodthirsty murder machine simply to sate my imaginary lust for more beans. I do not want to kill more than I have to.

This is all regardless of someone who has killed in self defense enough to become a 'bandit' who is now punished for their survival skills with crazy penalties.

All in all, currently the only solution I can think of for the rampant murderfest 2012 that is cherno/elektro is to join a different server. I have spent time on various different servers in america and europe and the individual server communities are vastly different. Remember what servers you join and eventually you will find one that suits you.

And for this reason i vote for the return of the bandit skin it only had an heavy impact on real bandits not on ocasional shoot on sight guys who try to avoid others and im sure it will encourage people to coop more frequently

I was considering something similar that would affect all players no matter their play style. I think this would encourage more team play but also give solo players a bit more depth in their game experience.

Strictly speaking this would be based on the humanity stat and would not turn you bandit if your humanity dropped too low.

Your humanity would be a value from 0 to 100 and depending on the actions you take it could not only drop, but the cap could be lowered. As your humanity drops different ailments can effect you such as hearing zombie grunts or gunshots that aren't real or ringing in ears as well as blurred vision or increased breathing noise for short periods. Perhaps even coughing fits could occur as if you were infected but would not be cured by medicine.

There could be much more to this, but here's a general concept.

Examples:

You play solo and avoid all contact with other players. Over time your humanity lowers but your cap remains the same. Using items such as books could raise your humanity and would be reusable but have a cool down to avoid spamming humanity regeneration.

You remain in non-aggressive close proximity with other survivors. Your humanity gradually rises, if your cap is below 100 this is the only way to raise it.

Firing on a survivor who has you or another survivor in their cross hairs. Your humanity is decreased by half the normal rate for a kill. Your max cap does not decrease.

Firing on a survivor who has shot you or another player recently. Your humanity does not drop.

Killing survivors with headshots or from long range. Reduces your max humanity.

I don't think bandits should have this or anything happen to them at all.

I do think if you take too many pain killers or morphine shots in a certain time frame you should have an addiction. The addiction is only cured by not taking more for x amount of time.
