A couple of questions from a newbie

Recommended Posts

1- I found a map and I noticed that sometimes it will show a marker with the player's location and orientation, and other times it won't. Is it something I have to activate/deactivate or is it a bug?

2- How common is MP5SD6 ammo compared to AKS-74 Kobra ammo? I had a chance to swap my AKS for a suppressed MP5 but chose not to because I had plenty of ammo for the AKS and I didn't know how easy/hard it was to find ammo for the MP5, despite how seductive an almost noiseless gun sounded. I have a feeling MP5 ammo is fairly common and I made a massive mistake.

1) It is enabled or disabled depending on the difficulty you play. It's a server side option not a game/mod option at this time.

2) I don't find MP5SD ammo, but I find kobra everywhere. In my experience the ammo you need for your rifle has a higher chance of spawning if you have said rifle in your hands; and the chance of it spawning increased exponentially based on the number of players near by.

Of course that whole bit could be in my head.

IMO get the silenced weapon next time you get a chance.

Only reliable way to get MP5SD ammo is checking all the airfield areas (Firestation, 2 Barracks, Control Tower, 7 Hangars). They have a small chance to spawn in Deer stands and Military tents, but those areas are not good risk-reward ratio. You can also get lucky with an ammo box at a chopper that will have 10 magazines.

Keep in mind that you don't always have to worry about ammo, if you're not firing the rounds.

I've had the same 2 MD5SD mags for 3 in-game days, and I've only used maybe 2-3 rounds out of that time. Granted I've used a few m1911 mags in that time, but a suppressed gun is situational.

Learn to conserve ammo, then figure out when to shoot.

In any situation that is under your control, you have the choice of weapon..

As for finding what you need, it completely depends on if you have a bunch of buddies that you play with, or if you're entirely on your own.

I guess I worry about ammo because I've been using an unsuppressed weapon. If you are in a town and get spotted and have to shoot a the zombie, you'll attract half the town to you, forcing you to use a lot more ammo. Maybe suppressed ammo makes up for it's relative rarity by not drawing attention to you.

I always play alone so the only military spawns I visit are deer stands, that's where I got the AKS and found the MP5. Next time I'll make the switch.

Thanks for the replies.

For a time I ran around with both a main weapon M16A2 and a MP5SD6 with a couple of mags in my pack. Helped that I had a 24 slot bag, but it gave me the flexability to switch out before I went into a Z populated area just incase.

Note - You have 4 x the chance of AK ammo spawning than MP5SD ammo spawning. Ammo for both only spawn as 'general' Military loot. Loot spawns in barracks have a 57% chance of being 'general' military loot, and deer stands have a 47% chance of being 'general' military loot.
