HP ProBook 450 , switching gpu problem.

Recommended Posts

Ok, bacground story, stranded in god forsaken place, lucky enough to have decent internet, but only have my dads buisnes laptop in possesion to try and play DayZ on it...but unlucky to do so.

So its HP ProBook 450 with AMD Radeon HD 8750M , i5 3230M  and 4gb of ram.

First of, i believe these specs are enough to play DayZ...im not looking for some ultra mega stronk settings, but atleast low to move around and do something with my time.

But the game wont budge, when i open it it goes with some 200p resolution , litteraly i cant even see the exit button, my pointer lags so much it is frustrating to even get out of main menu.

Anyway to cut the crap, i think the problem is that this peace of sh** laptop doesnt switch gpus when entering DayZ...yes it has hd 8750M, BUT it also has intel 4600 graphic baked into its cpu.....aaaand it is supposed to auto switch when it neds some extra gpu power, but it doesnt.

WHAT DO? Please help im begging.

Hey mate,

Being that you're using AMD graphics I'm not as familiar with the mobile options--but I believe in your Catalyst Control Center (CCC) you should be able to see/edit options for switching graphics, no?  I would suspect there's some profile settings, or hardware options that allow you to force the GPU to handle gaming (or maybe even particular applications?) on it's own.

I would start poking through those options first and foremost.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Wow, man thanks for reply i really didnt expect anyone to say anything....was just shooting everywhere for any ideas.

Well yeah ive been poking whole day now, and yes in ccc there is ,under power settings , settings for switchable gpu....i set it all on high preformance, well tbh i probably tried every possible combination, and nothing worked.  I even set dayz for high preformance, and even when i run it u can see in ccc that its running on high preformance, but the problem stays.

I kinda lost all hope reading HP forums with people with similar or same problems, theres just that some games work and some games dont. :((

idk, but thanks again, im sure ill be digging some more, but for now im tired...und so wanted to try this new update :((

Sorry to hear you couldn't get this sorted.  Maybe as of this reply you're up and running?  Guess there is still some ground to cover before switchable graphics in notebooks is a viable option.  Is there maybe any way you can set the BIOS to only use the GPU for graphics, rather than allowing your IGP to handle it?

Cheers,

Jimmy

edit: did some poking around, and found this literature on HP's site.  Not sure if it would be helpful, but maybe worth a read if you're still unable to play!

Valter, I'm having the same issue with the same laptop. Every other game I can go make sure that AMD's Catalyst COntrol Center has "high performance" aka, GPU - works for all other steam games except for DayZ SA. I wasn't having this issue on the mod version either.

All my drivers are up to date - Hybrid mode is enabled in BIOS which I've tried disabling so the GPU is defaulted, however the opposite actually happens. The GPU is disabled and intel's 4600 chip is the only accessible display driver. I've tried defaulting all my CCC options to set on High Performance instead of Power Saving, but no luck.

It sounds like a DayZ issue which would be awesome for a dev to look into. $30 and no access outside shotty software graphics mode.

BUMP
Any Help?

Here's a video to the awesome software mode: (CCC Settings set as based on power source however, it does the same thing when toggles as high performance.) This is the only game I'm experiencing an issue with switchable graphics. $30 and cant play = awesome.

Hi,

I have the same laptop and this driver helped me alot:http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405106&swItemId=ob_135988_1&swEnvOid=4059

Install over the current drivers and make sure to tick everything in the  installation.

Good Luck!

It's not a driver problem. All you have to do is to set your menu to the correct resolution in the configure menu.

I don't really get why people have a problem with that.
