Flint, lighter fluid and lighters

Recommended Posts

This is mostly about lighter fluid I know lighters and flint have been suggested.

Basically we can't have unlimited lighters and being unable to refill them would be lame, so lighter fluid.

Searching in rocky areas should have a chance to yield a piece of flint, with two or one and a stone you can bash them together to light a fire with a low chance of success but no chance of magical physics defying wind blowing it out.

But if you have a flint and a bottle of lighter fluid, ability to pour it on the campfire or whatever to increase your chance of success. As well as possibly make it burn out quicker if you don't add more sticks to it, this also uses more lighter fluid than filling a lighter up for balance.

It's not ideal, you want a lighter but it's an option.

plough or bow - very nice to know it, but a pain in the neck to do it (frankly).  As we have both learned from experience.

You're into survival and you don't have a firestarter in your pocket, just an axe ?.. ok if that's your way

I usually have a firestarter in a pocket with my loose change. Had this one here for 3 or 4 years, a couple of years or four ..

And a little 2-inch flat tin with burnt cotton, is on the dashboard right now. I used it regular to light cigs when I used to smoke.

Still use the firestarter anytime I'm away from the house. Weighs nothing, costs pennies, lasts for ever.

In real terms, would you rather go into the hills/woods (for maybe weeks) with a box of matches or a firestarter ?

no contest
