Animals as zombie lures

Recommended Posts

So zombies chase animals, not sure if that's intentional but I hope so it should stay that way, they should have a thirst for blood/brains.

So when animals aren't one hit kill, it would be awesome if they still ran in predictable directions, so you could "aim" them towards a city, shoot them in the side or something(perhaps with the sporter) so that they bleed and run off through the city, attracting all the nearby zombies and luring them away.

Course you'd have to be lucky that an animal was near a city but I think they should spawn near them, you see it all the time in post apocalyptic settings once humans leave or become scarce nature invades our cities so it's not too unbelievable.

This could also be great for when they add in bears or wolves, you see a bear hanging around somewhere you need to go, perhaps your base.

Shoot it in the hind leg, zombies come running for blood and weaken the bear to the point where it's an easy kill or manage to kill it themselves.

It would be an awesome feature alongside blood from players attracting zombies.

This is a great idea. Seen it before but not quite like this. If the zeds were attracted to blood we could teather an animal outside a city and cut it with a knife, then it slowly pulls zeds as the scent travels on the wind. Could slowly start seeing them wander towards it then attack when close enough.

For the letting them free one im all for that. I made a thread about small animal cages and had same thinking. Let a chicken out of its cage at the city limits....it runs (almost) strait away from you, pulling the zeds as it goes. Should always be a chance for it to fail though, maybe a high chance to pick a direction within 90 degrees of player facing, and a much smaller chance for 180 degrees from player facing. Then every now and then an uncoopretive animal would bolt away at 90degrees....strait away from the city you were pointing at.....DOH! :)

Yeah or they could occasionally freak out at the zombies and run right back to where you are leading an army of them at you. It would at nice element to the gameplay and until they work out some sort of stealth it would certainly do the job.

As well as if you're bleeding or have bloody clothes, no stealth for you.

Maybe you need the animal to lure them away so you can find some non blood soaked clothes.

They could also add in some kind of blow dart weapon so you can silently do it without attracting other players or that could just be what the Amphibia is used for since it's fairly useless right now, it would definitely be the best weapon for it besides a blow dart.

Not just luring them away either luring them to...

Nice base you got there, would look better with 10 zombies attacking you B)

It would add so much fun to the game I think.

Absolutly love the idea of them leading a pack of angry zombies back to you if it goes drastically wrong. Every little system like this should have a chance to fail....keep that dayz uncertainty and tension. Besides....animals are unpredictable at the best of times...I have this great scenario in my head now...

"hey m8 watch what we can do with chickens now!"

*releases chicken at big city*

*chicken runs towards city.....many zombies get pulled*

*chicken shits its self and runs strait back at them*

*2 guys run from epic zombie train (and the chicken lol) while one says....*

"yeah.....great that was m8!"

so one day I was in a field outside of a small town somewhere not far north and a little west when I found a cow so I paused for a closer look and the cow took a little run away from me. I followed for a bit when I realized I was running away from the little town I had spotted across the field so I turned to head back to town. as I approached the town I discovered I had attracted a zed and being more or less a fresh spawn I was not too prepared to deal with it via combat so evasion was my best option. I turned and ran back to the cow. luckily she hadn't gone far before stopping to graze so I stopped just past her and as I had hoped the zed lit on the cow. I made sure to keep my distance but I watched to make sure the cow continued to run away from the town and I went back to go about looting.

so theres that.  :)

Well yeah you can still kind of do it because the AI isn't perfect yet it's all placeholder, so they should expand on it with blood luring.

Especially with things like deer currently they only run like 20m away and stop running when in real life if a deer starts running you'll probably never see it again it'll go for miles.

It would be great to send a deer to a bear and then as the bear chows down on it shoot it in the head, so you can get it's pelt and make yourself an awesome bear skin jacket.

That should be like the only easy way to take one down.

Blood is so much better for zombies chasing things than just seeing them from miles away through walls and running to get them :P

At least without that if you weren't covered in blood you could sneak past zombies and loot buildings instead of having to kill everything in the area before you can loot in relative safety.
