GunnyITA 107 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) Today i've been throlled by a cheater that was bunny-teleporting himself to punch me down.....and even if i knocked him down 3 times his body was moving....i could not check his pulse to see his name Nobody around that could help me to kill me I realized also that he were able to unarm me and dress me out from distance....cause happened me twice that right before he was coming to me i've lost 2 rifles. I think that the only way to stop at these cheaters is to make the STEAM NAME shows once you are dead or inconscious or when you kill someone and check his pulse....along with a ticket to report if that steam account is cheating. I think if steam account shows won't be a problem, it's a different nickname from ingame and should not broke gameplay. Despite any other game, there is no way to kick a cheater once is discovered....so this is the only way to...Battleye works as shit. Bororm 1156 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) It might be helpful but you'd end up with a flood of false reports as well. I like being able to have a different name than my steam name, I had to change my steam name originally when the SA launched because I don't normally use the same name for every game. I don't think this would fix much, and it might also even make things worse if these clowns just start spamming steam invites to people and stuff as well. I do agree however that there needs to be a lot of improvements in antihack measures. Edited June 15, 2014 by Bororm

There are false reports also in DOTA2, hundreds....it's up the devs or steam to check the commands/macro the player is using and recognize if he's cheating. This means: I can be reported either if i did nothing, but if who checks will see that i've used nothing, then i'm on good faith. Thx God i was unequipped, but if i was? I can't play because of KOS and cheaters aswell? Edited June 15, 2014 by GunnyITA
Bororm 1156 Posted June 15, 2014 I personally hate Dota's system (I hate dota itself but that's another topic =P) for that reason, especially because it's automated it punishes people for no reason. I know you're not advocating an exact replica of it. I guess maybe if the process to fill out a ticket was a little more in depth than a ticket popping up just for checking their pulse it could cut down on the false reports. It definitely would be nice to have a way to report people, but I think a better approach would be something like giving admins better tools to monitor this type of stuff. There is of course the risk of giving admins too many tools that they can in turn use improperly which is just as bad as having hackers, so it's a fine line. Perhaps a chat should also be added that only goes to the admins of a server, so that players can report people directly while in game.

The problem is that you don't have an admin online. and how do you communicate? Then at this point a direct chat to the admin is needed as you said. But what will you say? i'm here at Berezino with a cheater? ...and who is this? :D

But what will you say? i'm here at Berezino with a cheater? ...and who is this? :D Yeah that's true as well. Really short of what we saw with private hives in the mod, and admins being able to check logs as well as whitelist servers I don't know that there's a ton to be done. The hacks need to be addressed at the source, but they'll always exist/evolve, so there's a need to police them as they happen. But giving people power to do so, also gives them power to be assholes themselves (hey just like real life policing =P). Eventually the good servers with fair/legitimate admins rise to the top, but finding a server is a pain and shitty drama always ensues. You could do paid game masters like subscription based mmos which helps cut down on the corruption, but I don't know that it's in the budget without some other form of monetization.Personally I'd be willing to pay a subscription to DayZ if it meant a huge reduction on hacks, but they've already made promises that it will never go that way. tsandrey 379 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) And how exactly will this fictional admin know if somebody is cheating? He won't. We have 2 anti-cheats (BE and VAC) and that's more than enough. We only need some security exploits fixed! Edited June 15, 2014 by TSAndrey
Rott (DayZ) 218 Posted June 15, 2014 DayZ mod... Still a better love story than standalone... Agreed?

rickyriot 1009 Posted June 15, 2014 How long has this particular "long distance loot" hack been on the go? A matter of days. Give it a week or so and it'll be patched up. Online gaming always has and always will have hacking, it's all down to how it's countered or removed and with the game in Alpha we should expect such "holes" to appear once in a while. rickyriot 1009 Posted June 15, 2014 So this is a new hack?Anyway a working anti-cheat system to recognize hackers is still needed! I've never seen someone having a banned account till now. Teleporting/bunny hopping has always been a problem in online FPS games and far from limited to DayZ. Clearly the nature of distributed clients all running different specifications connecting to a central server will be open to abuse (intentional or not) and I doubt that will ever be fully resolved. The long distance looting (LDL) is definitely something new, at least to me. I've only seen it within the last couple of weeks. Whether it's related to the security leak or just coincidence that it has appeared just after it is open to debate, but as it's a fairly chunky "fuck you" to the game there will have to be resources put into place in order to resolve it. Who knows in doing so the devs may find a better solution for client/server loot handling in general.
