Will zombie behavior ever be addressed?

Recommended Posts

I'm totally okay with zombies being difficult, but zombies from an AI perspective haven't appeared to evolve much, if any, since the mod's inception. It's quite literally impossible to consistently kill zombies with a melee weapon in the open without being attacked once or twice, which is complete, unequivocal, irrefutable bullshit. They sometimes randomly scoot toward the player at warp speed from fifteen feet away before delivering a blow in a fraction of a second. They're only capable of walking indoors. They instantaneously turn around and attack the player the instant he or she approaches close enough to be within melee range. Their player detection AI is beyond sporadic, and they at times abruptly stop following the player for no apparent reason.

Are these issues even capable of being resolved?

As far as I'm aware they will never run indoors and they will never be able to attack while running in the mod, so certain measures will always have to be taken to assist them in actually being able to hit players. Pretty much everything else is fixeable though.

i have wondered this for some time now.  I feel after the nerfed the weapons, now i just use my first to kill Zeds.. Its much easier and way less of a pain.  So now i dont even carry melee weapons.  I just dont understand the Aggro table, anytime ive thought i have figured it out..something new and crazy happens that makes me scratch my head.  My main thing about this Alpha was that they should take all the resources and fix the base of the game.  I.E Buildings, Mechanics, and Zeds before throwing all this new up coming content down the pipeline.

Fix the foundation and make it stable, and then this game can flourish.  Two many hands all working on dif things cant be good.

Its a zombie survival game!!  Damn the weapons, damn the crossbow, damn the vehicles, damn hunting, damn base building......Get the base fixed then take your time on everything else.  Zombie rabbits are still around hahah

I think a lot people would disagree but, I think the walking dead zeds are the best solution. The servers I've played on where zeds ONLY walk were quite nice. You can get too lax thinking they're slow and can't get you. Then boom there's 6 of them in the building with you.

No this is a terrible idea. This is implemented in Arma 3's breaking point, and how TERRIBLE that is. When they're only walking, zeds become child's play with no real challenge, and becomes a 100% easy pvp fest. I didn't even need a weapon in A3 breaking point, you could just sprint 24/7 around everything and loot everything with hardly any danger. Got boring quick. It works for the walking dead, but definitely not  for dayz.

The way zeds are now are perfect, minus the hit range and broken sneak system. Once these are fixed it will be perfect.

Regardless of how difficult zombies are, DayZ is always going to be a "PvP fest" in the absence of a significant meta-game to encourage player cooperation. Adding more survival mechanics and ramping up the game's general difficulty is never going to do anything to curb PvP. If anything, it increases the incentive to kill players for their ever more valuable loot as the game gets harder and harder. Give a bambi an axe and he'll recklessly try to kill a geared player for his equipment nine times out of ten. Meanwhile, a geared player is probably going to kill on sight because he's afraid of being killed and losing his gear, which in itself is based upon the fact that he's a walking loot pinyata.

I think the most effective solution to rampant player killing would be to simply eliminate the ability to loot player bodies entirely. Obviously, that's never going to happen, so killing on sight is probably going to remain a staple of DayZ until its decline and demise. Here's to hoping H1Z1 won't suck, since it's allegedly going to be more PvE-centric.

That's not what I meant. I meant it's ONLY PVP and no survival based on how easy the zombies are in breaking point, or walking zombies in general. Nothing to do with increasing or decreasing the amount of pvp, just that that's ALL there is. I'm not arguing for or against PVP.

When zombies are a challenge it gives more incentive to loot more cautiously and strategically, as well as to not aggro a lot of them.

Not like it's hard to run into a building or pine tree right now anyways
