Been shot I get away and am in a bush next to the building lying down. Dude is still on roof looking over but doesn't see me. If I could have rolled onto my back and fired my pistol in 1st person I might have been able to kill him or at least injure him.

Not a bad idea TBH. Maybe Ctrl+ Q or E while prone could perform a half roll.

You know, I always liked being able to do that in Metal Gear Online (or whatever it was called, the multiplayer packed with MGS4).  Probably be uncomfortable as hell to do but I sniped a couple of times in that position, feet first, almost supporting my weapon.
