how to get people to play on our servers?

Recommended Posts

Theres alot of things you can do. a few things i've done and seen work well for others;

-Do events, advertised in advance. load a truck with some awesome gear or suplies and challenge people to come take it by force or what ever. (make sure you play fair if your owner/admin. remember the point is to give away stuff and make people want to play there)

-Offer incentives to people who join with groups. if your server is ver young getting a few clans to make thier home there can give you a huge kickstart. you dont even have to necessarily give out anything OP; something as simple as a crate of building supplies to people who join with 5 more more friends/clanmates encourages them to stay and build a base (and once they've invested time into building they have a reason to come back later)

-Have responsible/mature and professional admins/mods for ALL timezones. people get thier gear glitched, or fall thru stairs, etc. and then of course, theres the occsiaonal exploiter or abusive player. there should be staff avilable 24/7 to help with things like this- Likewise said staff should be people who can be mature and responsible with thier powers. so many times i see server owners just make clan members or IRL friends admin and then those friends abuse it. If your not prepared to stomp on toes and reign in your friends you may want to seriously consider not using them as admins.

If you decide to do doner packs/perks try to keep them small and cheap (think micro-transactions). thinks in the 5-15$ range do well. special loadouts are always popular (but dont make them rediculously OP, just more convienent then spawning empty-handed. things like maps, basic tools- maybe even a pistol or SMG if you have roaming AI on your server). remember that quick cash-grabs generally debalance the server and drive away normal players who may not be giving you money but they DO keep your server populated and high on server list and that keeps traffic coming thru.

yeah  pretty much got all the above, except the donation for packs/perks since that illegal. still no luck for us yet. starting to get desperate here!

Put up 1000+ vehicles, high loot and spawn with an DMR and full military outfits+basebuilding. Then Im 100% sure that you'll get your server filled up in no time... :( . What the hell happend to the hardcore dayz communety..? And where is that hardcore Namalsk server with earthquakes and freezing temp and blodsuckers where campfires and heatpacks was crucial for survival,,,now all Namalsk servers are 200+ vehicles and all that bullshit, and I haven't found the one with eartquakes, hardest dayz server I have ever played on, intense as hell, people had to team up to survive, ah, good times :)

Word of mouth. Social media is a powerful thing. Stuff like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.. The more you can be seen the better. A lot of good private hives tend to be connected through social media in some capacity.

Keep an eye out around here, people/clans looking for a regular server to play on.

Ask around, contact other admins. See if they can help give you a few tips, help with adding cool new stuff, etc..

Theres no need to kick the man when hes down, hes only asking for a bit of help to get his server a bit busier. hardcore servers are still out there my good man, you just have to find 'em!

Im not kicking a man when he's down, I just telling the thruth of what the communety has become....Hardcore servers are still out there, but not a single soul plays on them because when easymode is available most people seem to choose it... Name a single non 3rd person view server with vanilla hard settings and also has night mode that has any people playing on them,,,,please,,,I have looked for weeks but their all gone.....Give me one and I'll shut up(preferably a namalsk server), but chernarus would also be fine....

fair play kabuki my good man. Didn't realise you were looking for non 3rd person vanilla. To me 1st person is taking things too far as you have to press keys just to move your eyes from side to side, it just feels too clunky. 3rd person has its flaws, but at least it allows you to see whats going on around you without having to bash the keyboard.

If you have a Trackir like me it's the most immersive way to play, because I use my head too turn around ingame and that is awsome. It used too be servers with 1st person views but I guess all the people have moved on to SA or other games.

But there is alot less players on 3rd person servers too, my favorite map in the mod was Namalsk and nowadays, only the 200+ vehicles, 24/7 day, selfbloodbag servers has people on them, the Namalsk server I used to play on had 3rd person, but it had rare loot, extreme cold, blodsuckers and earthquakes, nowadays there's only 1person that play on these extremely hard Namalsk servers, kinda boring playing on a server with 1guy:p. The athmospere on these Namalsk servers still scare the shit outta me, they are just so damn creepy and hard that teaming up is neccesary..too bad there is noone that plays on them anymoore:(
