What would be a realistic level of stamina/run time?

Recommended Posts

Around 2.5 to 5 minutes continious full sprinting before your charachter needs to rest.

Also take account the weight of the carried items and the survivor's overall energy levels to affect the stamina.

If sleep is ever implemented (which i doubt, but i would really love to see)

then there should be a cap on stamina requiring few hours(game time) to resort to sleep.

I've thought about the need for sleep but it'd be really hard to implement without taking away from the game.  Now having to stop and rest for an extended time period would work.  Having the proper foods and drinks to give your body some energy levels to rest faster would also work.

I think sleep should work but it should just be like a logout option, so you can find an empty house and log out one a bed then when you log back in if you haven't played in 8 hours(because maybe you went to sleep IRL) your character is fully rested.

So long as we don't have to actually sit while playing the game and watch our character sleep for hours I'm all for sleep being added, along with sitting down to rest.

As said about run speed it should be toned down if you die it only takes like 20 minutes to run back to your dead body depending on where you spawned.

Though I hope bambi's can always run decently fast so we can escape bandits with full gear sets >.>

Heavier weight less time for each

The only sensible sleep mechanic that I can see work in dayz is the rust mechanic.

This however is only if base building is in and they remove the central hive and move to private hives.

I can't see requiring people to devote some of their playing time to sleep going over very well with players.

You know, I think they should at least experiment with a sleeping mechanic. It's one of those things that could be cool, or not, but you won't know until you try.

Personally, I'd like to see them try an "always persistent" approach with regard to our characters/avatars. Sleeping should be what you do when you log out, but your character stays in-server in some sort of camouflaged sleeping bag. No more logging out outside of NWAF, no more logging out in front of another player, because your character is always able to be killed.

Now, granted, there are some massive flaws with this approach. But it'd be largely unprecedented and could make life all the more precious in DayZ. I don't much like the possibility of my character being killed without being able to defend myself. But, this just goes hand-in-hand with the inconsistency in persistence. In my opinion, you can't really have it both ways. You can't have certain things be persistent and others not, in a truly persistent world.

But yeah, not the best of ideas, but I think some sort of sleeping would be an interesting experiment. And not just what we had in the mod.

I wouldn't mind a slightly slower run speed, especially for running around unarmed.

Also wouldn't mind some sort of encumberance mechanic, that makes you run slower, the more weight/items you carry.

I personally DON'T want to see anything along the lines of a stamina bar though, even if hidden.  It just feels too shitty when you get short bursts of speed followed by long periods of slowness, I'd rather consistent speed with variations depending on load out.  Otherwise you end up sprinting, then being super slow, then sprinting, super slow and it feels awful.

The max run speed should depend on how much equipment you got on you. Current speed is OKish if you don't have much equipment. For example every five kilo you runnin speed is decreased by X until you basically walk so if you somehow have 100kg of stuff with you you can't run and with 50kg you can run only the half of speed we currently can.

Then additionally the more stuff you got the quicker you get so exhausted that you can only walk. With only your clothes on and waterbottle you could run a long time. Also you should be forced to jogging speed if you've run enough long distance.

I think zombies should only jog so you can outrun them for some time if you've rested but with a lot of stuff with you and/or exhausted they can catch you. That would make a lot of difference and roles inside clans/groups and it makes you think do you even want to load backpack full if you go for a town raid.

I did almost enjoy rust but the type of players who play that game is what drove me away from it but I really did like the sleep mechanic.

As for your push for base building what exactly are you looking for in it?   If you're hoping to be able to build a super fortress I honestly don't think that is the kind of base building that will be implemented.  http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162376-if-dayz-had-rust-minecraft-esque-style-crafting/#entry1636737

I agree with your last point.

Depends.

Some fat Joe might say that jogging for 1km is a lot, but a fit person can easily jog for 10km.

Weigh of equipment should be a very important factor though.

if you run, you only die tired.

sprint 200 m

jog     10000m

walk   4ever

thats what a 30 years old dude/hot bunny should be able of.

I agree with your last point.

Maybe,have a "well rested" buff for sleeping sufficiently(log out/sleep for x time).

Something like "Energy of Repose" on Aion (if you ever played that game you know).

In order to receive the buff, you must rest or log out of the game for a period of time. The percentage you have upon logging in is based off of how long you rested. So in return, survivors that are well rested could have stamina bonus.Eg:

Realistic level of stamina and run time?

Well considering that our characters are pretty fit and not some obesse basement dwellers then I would say 5 minute run for DayZ males and 30 seconds run for DayZ females.

Oh Hai mr troll :)
