What would be a realistic level of stamina/run time?

So they're adding stamina in the future and presumably what gear you have will affect how far and fast you can run.

 

But what sort of distance/time is reasonable?

 

Because currently zombies chase me for like 5 minutes like seriously if I stop and look back can't see them, stay there eventually they show up still.

 

Basically I hope we can always be able to escape them instead of being able to run two minutes against a zombies infinite stamina(they should have stamina too)

A few kilometers, before you're slowed... a few more after that and you become in need of something (food, water, etc.)

 

The zombie bit is a different issue entirely, it requires them to revamp the zombie aggro system (which they're going to do, it's on the roadmap). It's got nothing to do with evasion as it functions now. But, I'd like to see line-of-sight play a bigger role, and long distance aggro be more geared toward general areas vice having 100% accurate access to your exact position no matter where the zombie aggros you.

 

To my knowledge, the zombies actually DO have stamina (although it might not be that in so many words). They occasionally slow from the sprint to the shambly-run every now and again.

 

As to the running speed, I think it needs to be brought back to mod levels. We can traverse the entirety of Chernarus, it seems, much faster. Which, unfortunately, makes the map smaller by relative comparison (i.e. one step goes further than it did in the mod).

I think you should be able to outrun zombies (i.e. you are faster than them), but not forever. Meaning, if you sprinted a long distance, and get caught by a zombie while you have zero stamina you shouldn't have enough energy left to run away from it.

 

In this case you are forced to fight the zombie(s) with all disadvantages beeing exhausted may bring. For example lower melee damage/attack rate and increased weapon sway.

 

This would, together with a more refined zombie vision system, encourage planning ahead and trying to avoid zombies as much as possible.

I hope you are refering to normal running. I don't think we should be able to sprint for a few kilometers.

Our feet are our only transportation ATM.

I'm not going to hold down for any longer than I already have to.

To me it seems more like the zombies just get bored :P

 

But yeah having them run in your general area is something I hope they do, it's so annoying in games where when one enemy sees you they all know exactly where you are all the time...

 

I hope they don't make it so you just get hungry/thirsty from running, kinda dumb like if you run for 4 hours you can't fit more stuff in your stomach so in future I hope the incorporate a "rest" system where you sit down and recover, preferably on a seat or bed(boost to rest recovery)

Should make you get thirsty quicker though.

Well considering that our characters are pretty fit and not some obesse basement dwellers then I would say 5 minute run for DayZ males and 30 seconds run for DayZ females.

Why can women run less a distance than men?

...

 

5 minutes seems reasonable, but I'm not sure about with gear a 2 minute run time would suck escaping zombies would be a nightmare but to lower it by only a minute when you have a huge backpack full of stuff would also be stupid...

I think if you're going to so it, you should be able to sprint for maybe like 40-50 seconds at a time, but jog for more, like 5-6 km before you have to rest. Both should definitely make you thirsty, hungry, and less energized much faster than just walking.

 

But I don't think they should put any of this in-game until there are at least pedal bikes.

Zombies should shamble, not sprint. We should be able to jog 5km to start but have to walk/rest for a real-time couple minutes afterwards. We should also have a hidden "endurance" trait that increases over time until we can jog 40-50km without resting. Wearing jogging shoes increases your endurance trait. Wearing combat boots decreases it.

Edit: Longest sprint distance should be 300m. Then your endurance is completely depleted and you have to do your normal walk/rest stuff.

You wouldn't notice it. You would just gradually be able to run farther like in real life.

I would like to be able to shoot people in the knee so they would be not able to run ever again like in real life.

No. Like normal human endurance. If you run a long ways you get tired and have to rest. I can run 5-7km before I am tired because I am lazy. I have a female friend that runs half marathons on a regular basis. Endurance.

 

I would like to be able to shoot people in the knee so they would be not able to run ever again like in real life.

 

To keep it authentic maybe they could make sure that fractures require time to heal before you are able to run again. XD

It would be silly for it to be in the inventory menu, can't look at your wrist and see how long you can run in real life can you? (without a watch anyway)

Wonder if they'll add watches so you could time your progress, if they implemented an unseen progression/stat system.

I'm hoping for more prominence to be given to the condition of your feet. Any tramp will tell you that a sturdy, comfortable pair of shoes/boots is probably the most important thing you can have - after access to food and water.

 

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, you get blisters, and if your shoes are unsuitable or worn out, it exacerbates the problem. This makes walking and running actually painful, and nearly impossible after a while. Additionally, if your don't keep your feet dry, they start to rot. Light-weight running/athletic shoes should be the best option if they're pristine and you're on dry, even terrain, but they should wear out quickly and cause slips and falls on wet/rough ground. Conversely, big stomping boots would last longer and keep water out better, but not allow you to run as freely or quickly.

I like it as it is right now. Map is huge I don't want any stamina bar to slow me down. Maybe if it just made you tired and have to sleep or you slow down would be enough.

I think the running speed is a vastly under-discussed issue. It dictates the overall size of the map relative to the player. I think it needs to be put back to the speed of the mod, where every journey was a journey... not just an insignificant jaunt. Honestly, I could care less if people have to hold "W" longer (I use a controller, so that's not really a problem for me).

Agree 100%.  I hate the running speed as it is.  It makes the game feel like an oversized CoD map with the current run speed.  Oh, remap the 2xforward to your ctrl button.  It does wonders for the middle finger ;)

I would not mind a slower running speed. But maybe that should wait untill there are basic vehicles in the game to serve as an alternative to walking.

 

Also we need a toggleable "run" key, keeping w pressed can become quite a chore after some time.

I can't support stamina until we get cars. The run limit should be really high so it doesn't impede gameplay too much.

Around 2.5 to 5 minutes continious full sprinting before your charachter needs to rest.

Also take account the weight of the carried items and the survivor's overall energy levels to affect the stamina.

If sleep is ever implemented (which i doubt,but i would really love to see)

then there should be a cap on stamina requiring few hours(game time) to resort to sleep.
