Winning a gunfight [TIPS]

Hey, just wanted to bring a few tips (some may seem obvious, but whatever) when faced with a fight:

 

-Avoid the fight. I know this sounds boring, but unless you are ready to die let them leave.

-If you see them from afar, take your time. Chances are if you don't, you'll shoot quickly and miss in your panic, and they will have time to leave. Or worse, kill you.

-Look for openings: maybe they just bent down to pick up a medkit, maybe they are facing the wrong way, or even AFK. Shoot then, and aim for the head.

 

If worst comes to worst, and you actually fight them:

-Find cover. One well placed bullet is all it takes, and you're not one of those cowboys standing in front of each other shooting at each other: you can move. Jump out of the way, take cover, lean out and shoot. Use the environment to your opportunity: getting a high ground will help, or even shooting a nearby gas tank which is near your opponent.

-Make them scared. If, when you find them, you just shoot randomly and miss, they'll immediately know you're a noob and kill you. If you get a well placed shot (or even break their legs), they'll quickly run away, scared. Make your opponent fear you.
-Use quick weapons to kill them. Whilst shotguns are good for zombies, chances are the time it takes for you to reload is enough for him to kill you. Bullets don't count for everything, but a large amount of them is good, and if your rounds are well placed can finish him quickly.

-If worst comes to worst and you run, try and zigzag or hide in a building. Like that he will not sit down and shoot you easily like some wild animal.

 

When fighting groups of enemies:

 

-Be wary. Even if you only SEE one person, they may not be alone. Usually when I get into gunfights I have a sniper backing me up from afar and a guy hiding, waiting to come in if things go ugly. Always be cautious.

-Shoot the leader/best equipped. As a noob I always ran away if the strongest guys of my group died. You'll easily scare off anyone who's scared.

 

These are not general truths or facts, just things I have noticed and tips I use myself. If you disagree with one or want to add another, post here!

You missed the most important one.

 

- Pray the dispersion gods are on your side and even though you are aiming correctly the dispersion gods grant you with a lucky shot.

 

Here is an accurate reproduction of how some gunfights end up because of the dispersion.

Shoot and maneuver. Knowing the difference between cover and concealment helps tremendously. Be aggressive

Only thing in my experience that will help you win firefights, is just seeing the other person before he/she sees you. It's the most significant thing in my opinion in terms of just being able to control what happens from there on.

Gibz, you forgot to pray to the desync-gods. Esp if you play with an M4 in closequarters. Chances are you sprayed your target with 30 rounds. Then he turns around, firing back at you. He then dies, but so do you.

 

Now another tip: Don't underestimate suppression. Once the AKM is introduced this can be practised better. If you get shot at, you might try to spray in the rough direction where you suspect the fire coming from. Chances are that your enemy ceases fire and seeks for cover. Works best with high frequency weapons, so the AKM will serve as a light Machinegun soon.

My number 1 golden rule: Wait it out. 
You missed him (or did hit him but he survived) and he ran into a house. Don't run into him, wait him out. Same goes for a body. Don't ever rush over to someone you just killed to loot him. Wait it out, as you self said, he may have a buddy to cover him.

My rules are simply avoid, or be the first to make contact.

 

If you talk to them first at least you have the upper hand if they act aggressively, which can be pointing a gun in your direction or not responding to your voice.

 

Tbh anyone who doesn't respond via Direct is viewed as an enemy.

  • 1. Pillage, then burn.

2. A Sergeant in motion outranks a Lieutenant who doesn't know what's going on.

3. An ordnance technician at a dead run outranks everybody.

4. Close air support covereth a multitude of sins.

5. Close air support and friendly fire should be easier to tell apart.

6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

7. If the food is good enough the grunts will stop complaining about the incoming fire.

8. Mockery and derision have their place. Usually, it's on the other side of the barrel.

9. Never turn your back on an enemy.

10. Sometimes the only way out is through. . . through the wall.

11. Everything is air-droppable at least once. 

12. A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head.

13. Do unto others.

14. "Mad Science" means never stopping to ask "what's the worst thing that could happen?".

15. Only you can prevent friendly fire. 

16. Your name is in the mouth of others: be sure it has teeth. 

17. The longer everything goes according to plan, the bigger the impending disaster. 

18. If the officers are leading from in front, watch out for an attack from the rear. 

19. The world is richer when you turn enemies into friends, but that's not the same as you being richer. 

20. If you're not willing to shell your own position, you're not willing to win.

21. Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Take his fish away and tell him he's lucky just to be alive, and he'll figure out how to catch another one for you to take tomorrow. 

22. If you can see the whites of their eyes, somebody's done something wrong. 

23. The company mess and friendly fire should be easier to tell apart. 

24. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a big gun. 

25. If the damage you do is covered by a manufacturer's warranty, you didn't do enough damage. 

26. "Fire and Forget" is fine, provided you never actually forget.

27. Don't be afraid to be the first to resort to violence. 

28. If the price of collateral damage is high enough, you might be able to get paid to bring ammunition home with you. 

29. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less. 

30. A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go. 

31. Only cheaters prosper.

32. Anything is amphibious if you can get it back out of the water 

33. If you're leaving tracks, you're being followed.

34. If you’re leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun.

35. That which does not kill you has made a tactical error. 

36. When the going gets tough, the tough call for close air support. 

37. There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload.'

38. Just because it's easy for you doesn't mean it can't be hard on your clients.

39. There is a difference between spare parts and extra [parts.]

40. "Do you have a backup?" means "I can't fix this"

41. If it will blow a hole in the ground, it will double as an entrenching tool 

42. Don't expect the enemy to cooperate in the creation of your dream engagement.

Patience wins fights in DayZ for sure, this is probably the best advice.  It's something I'm good at solo but in a group I usually break this rule and often pay for it.

If shots are incoming, run for the woods.  Reconnoiter the scene or make for the trees.  Nobody remembers the dead in Chernarus.

don't panic and start spraying relax  take steady shots at least with the m4 and know a head shot in 3rd person view is right center mass when not aiming down the sights . And in first person view its just a lil right of where your rectiule is
