"Casual" Mode Suggestion

Recommended Posts

This game would be great if servers could run a "Casual" mode where if you die you still retain all your equipment. This would NOT remain on any other normal difficulty servers, but would just offer a way for people to learn the mechanics and have fun.

Additionally, equipment earned on Casual would NOT transfer over to your other difficulties. You would instead have two separate persistent loadouts. One for normal/hardcore, and one for casual.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before. But I'm also sure that there's plenty of people who would think it'd be a great idea to offer a casual mode.

Learning on a "casual" server where you don't lose everything will only teach you bad habits. Learning to play the game doesn't take long as it is. It's just that most people don't play the game correctly when they start, as they are used to more typical FPS, which is fine.

It's just a matter of adapting.

The best thing about this game is the way you have to adapt. You will die plenty of times before you settle into a mode of play that suits you.

The mod is arguably at it's best and most enjoyable when you're still going through the learning curve and finding it incredibly tough to survive.

Once you become really familiar with where to find loot, how to avoid zombies, etc. survival becomes a bit easy and trivial... and overall the game becomes somewhat less rewarding (albeit still fun).

So no, I don't think this is a good idea.

"Casual Mode" would be a private server where you know everyone who's on, and keep out the bandits.

Besides, you can keep your gear when you die. It's called remember where you die, and if it's worth it, run back. If it was a bandit that killed you, you might even luck out that they didn't take all your gear and didn't waste time hiding the body.
