Why painkillers (Starting gear gripe)

Recommended Posts

First off, i have no issue with the recent "no weapon spawning" changes, i for one thank them, so much more intense and challenging at the start and i appreciate my gear so much more, and dont just rush the NW airfield for kills after the 12th day of survival.

Though i have 1 big gripe, and thats the painkillers

Whats the point? we dont have a gun, and its more likely that we will find a hatchet before a gun. Even if we do find a gun, painkillers are pretty common and will fix any shakes you may have

The fact that zombies can break your legs (even though their hitting us in the upper body?) is basically a death warrant when you a) startle zombies and get hit or b) engage with a melee weapon.

Now i know we should learn to stealth but this being an alpha, and the zombie detection is still abit iffy (I'm still getting hit through walls or zombies noticing me when im prone at a 10- 20m distance with them looking away or crouched behind a wall).

It would make sense to give starting players morphine, so they can live and retain that morphine for later, so by the time they have decent gear, their not absolutely screwed when they get broken legs from 1 zombie hit (happened to me at 9k blood) and forced to crawl everywhere and unable to escape and lose the awareness for zombies around them.

Before people start mentioning "your a civilian, you wouldnt have access to morphine", im with you on that. But zombies wouldnt break anyones legs, unless they were eating it!

Alot of people have suggested solutions such as a splint or painkillers to give temporary walking. But until something is decided, morphine should be added to starter gear

But other then this issue, the mod has been awesome and given some great shinnanigans!

Same reason there are empty whiskey bottles everywhere - Max fucking Payne.

Some say if you meet him one day and give him your painkillers he'll give you his trusty beretta and teach you how to slow down time.

Ok maybe it's not because of max payne, but perhaps rocket doesn't want to give people more reasons to kill fresh spawns, because the easiest way to obtain morphine was to simply murder a fresh spawn, and bam, you'd have 2 morphine injections in case you ever got knee capped or just unfortunate.

You should have titled this "Why not morphine" and posted it in the suggestions section.

I would rather no supplies at the start except a bandage or two.

painkillers make sense for some random average joe to take with them into the apocalypse, as does a flashlight and a bandage

It doesn't make sense for average joe to spawn with military grade morphine, and zombies won't be breaking nearly as many legs in the next patch

I agree with you in that since the game isnt realistic in other ways why have painkillers but not morphine?

The issue however is you shouldnt be hit in the head by a zombie and this action breaks your legs. Breaking bones should be quite rare unless you do something stupid like jump off a tower.

I say have random junkie zombies who have morphine on them.

All for morphine. I had 12000 health and had a zombie crawling up some stairs next to me. Then, like stretch armstrong he reaches out 10 ft and breaks my legs. I now have 1890 health but broken legs and NO FREAKIN MORPHINE. I've been raiding towns for 2 hours now and haven't found ANY!

So damn frustrating.

Then why do I not start with antibiotics? That would also be a damn reasonable thing to take with you.

yes let's give bandits more reason to spawn camp.

HEY GUYS NOT ONLY DO THEY NOT HAVE WEAPONS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, YOU CAN GET ALL THE MORPHINE YOU NEED ON THE COAST NOW.

The last thing we need is more bitching from PvE players and rocket fucking the game sideways to appease them.

Why painkillers (Starting gear gripe)

I figured it would make 1st Person Veteran servers bearable.

Yea, new spawns should only start with bandage(they're easy enough to obtain they don't give bandits a reason to kill you).

Unless it could be set that new players could start with food and water, and have those not be lootable by anyone else. It makes sense that a person would have both(most people have canned food and pop/water bottles at home).

While we're griping about starting gear, what kind of survivor has pain killers and a bandage, but no compass, watch, or firestarter. One who completely failed survival 101, surely.

I gotta say I'd have grabbed the matches on the way out but if i really am washed up on the beach i guess they got ruined.

I'm not sure why ppl use the word "realistic" about this mod ? There is very little about this mod that IS realistic. And trust me, you don't really want realistic..

yes let's give bandits more reason to spawn camp.

bandits are gonna spawn camp regardless' date=' and i doubt the addition of morhpine would change anything. Its not that big an addition, and they really dont gain much, unlike when the mod had you starting with food and ammo.

Yea, new spawns should only start with bandage(they're easy enough to obtain they don't give bandits a reason to kill you).

This would be heaps challenging, and way brutal for new players, but i would like this too :P. But no, bandits will still be bandits cause "lol k/d" is all that matters.

they are called bandits because they kill for no reason

I figured it would make 1st Person Veteran servers bearable.

The shaking isnt even that bad' date=' i played on a vet server when the changes first happened and ran from balota to stary without using my painkillers till i got a weapon. Also found another painkiller on the way, so its easy to just find it.

Although i can see new players complaining about "Why am i shaking and how do i bloody stop it?"

Now here is where i got this great thought from. I agree fully with you kophka, but i want to explain my idea of a backstory (if this has already been said, im sorry but im making a rebuttal)

The reason you wash up on a beach is because you were originally escaping via ship, but people were getting infected onboard so you jump ship with a life raft (yep, you selfish bugger, stealing a life raft for yourself)

I havnt seen a survival kit from a life raft, but id assume we would have:

-1 unit of food and water

-1 bandage

-1 painkiller & morphine

-torch

This would explain why we have non of the outdoor survival gear, as i thought life rafts are only meant to sustain for like 48 hours or something (too lazy to research, please respond with actual knowledge)

With the amount of broken bones, morphine would definitely be camp-worthy.

Bandits weren't camping for food & ammo before, makarov ammo & food was common as all hell.

Makarovs were a *disincentive* to farm the coast if anything. I would kill campers with nothing but a makarov on spawn and be fully geared.

Putting unarmed new spawns on the beach with morphine? That's a recipe for disaster.

Pfft so people keep telling me, I wouldn't mind trying it and making up my own mind though.

Yeah the thing is with people is that everyones perception of "realism" is different.

Some say they would start with all the survival gear, others say nothing but a weapon, the developer says the current system is realistic?. In the end people will always complain.

Another thing is, in certain circumstances, realism isnt fun. get shot? go into shock and unable to defend yourself. Eat only baked beans? suffer malnutrition and unable to carry stuff. again, this is my perception of realism, and i would not enjoy this in game

But as zombies breakign legs is, in my opinion, is just there to make things more difficult, and meant to force players to be more cautious. Its an unnecessary mechanic, as zombies do a butt-load of damage, and the chance of getting knocked down is high enough to warrant a threat that having this ontop is just a middle finger to those that survive but are unlucky to get broken legs in the encounter.
