Mobsix 3 Posted May 23, 2014 Hi,I didn't really know where to post this, but since im pretty new to this game (less than a month) and never played the mod, i think i'm in the right place.Ever since i started playing, i read a lot on dayz, it's a really fun addictive game. Anyway, i was wondering if i'm doing it right, by wearing blue cloths. I heard the mod has outfits for heroes and bandits, or i am wrong ?To be honest, it never really worked on regular servers, i always get KOS no matter how i look. However, it seems to be working on hardcore servers, i didnt died from a kos in the past week.Is my outfit really working to show that i'm a "friendly" player, or just because hardcore servers, are more serious with more mature players ?Now, as for how to "act" like a hero I never point my gun at someone, although i have it in my hands (just in case) and i always carry extra food and water around for freshspawns. I rarely give players firearms, just in case they just use it on me. Or if i do, i never give them bullets until i am certain they are friendly. What can i do, to be more useful, than to just carry food and water ?Being still fresh to the game, I know i could go bandit hunting, but i'm pretty much a alone and don't know where they go and i still don't know all the locations.Any tips from the very few good guys out there ? Heres 2 pic of what my character looks like.
James Hawke 114 Posted May 24, 2014 You look like a smurf. What do you expect on gaining by dressing like that? KOS players will kill you regardless of what you look like, and walking around like a blue christmas tree only makes you that much easier to spot...
MarchHare 184 Posted May 24, 2014 Being a hero relies nothing on how you are dressed. You will be shot on sight no matter what. I Just try to be helpful wheñ I can. Keep a positive tone of voice. Only step in to "rescue" when you are confident of success. Try not to be a dick.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 24, 2014 Tips I have:1. Keep up the good work!2. Take a day or two and randomly explore, then use online maps or in-game maps you've found and systematically plan to explore a few places, including Elektro and Berezino, as well as all 3 airfields. Something else fun - try to find a castle or some of the other neat things out there.3. Carry spare can openers and screw drivers - those are solid gold to fresh spawns, ultimate good guy gifts. Loopest 60 Posted May 24, 2014 To be a hero, Never get attched to your gear. If you get attached and you die, you will start to revert back to KoS (Kill on Sight) because of fear of being killed. Help people. Give people food, drinks, and some equipment to help get them started. Travel with a squad. Stick to an ideal: kill anyone who has better gear and who is walking with their gun up. Walking with their gun up means they failed to follow rule #1. Help everyone go you know is not a threat. Don't kill anyone you don't need to. And remember, try to teach the bandits a lesson. (P.S. Feed the bandits worms ;) )

By the way, don't mess with anybody with a red jacket since they are probably a blood B)

Mobsix 3 Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks for the tips guys, i use blue clothing, thinking it looks less threatening, but if it doesn't change anything, i will revert back to camo.Never saw someone with a red jacket, yet. I guess it's a gang thing, based on real life blood ?

Have a spare can opener so you can give it to other survivors. You're doing a great job.

Conrad_The_Comrade 577 Posted May 25, 2014 To those who say "Clothes dont mean anything", I would have to argue. Yes, those who just KoS to KoS will still continue shooting at you regardless, but "normal survivors" act upon fear. If you have things that look more threatening, they won't come to you with open arms, if they have a chance to kill you, you can bet they will, however, if you look more like them, or "friendlier" in any way, they might just either avoid you, or try to interact with you. We as the human race think in certain ways, and in situations like this, Fear conquers all other emotions/thoughts.
Jvalor 59 Posted May 25, 2014 Just run around yelling, "Have no fear. I will save you!" into your Mic. And make comic-style punching noises while you save a fresh spawn from a zombie.

I guess it's a gang thing, based on real life blood ?It's not so much what you wear, it's how you act. I've seen harmless looking players on YouTube videos with no pants and a red checkered shirt going ape shit crazy on other players. Just a side note, don't trust a man who doesn't wear pants. Robert Neville 59 Posted May 27, 2014 Just a question, Mobsix. How do you attain the status "Healthy" (shown in your character status)?
Mos1ey 6301 Posted May 27, 2014 Just a question, Mobsix. How do you attain the status "Healthy" (shown in your character status)? While "hydrated" and "energized" are both light green you regain health and eventually become "healthy". :)

Hoff Suppressant 66 Posted May 27, 2014 I made an effort to recreate the Hero skin from the mod in Standalone back in January. Now, of course the Tactical Vest has been removed from the game and I haven't heard if it will ever be back but for now the black UK assault would suffice. With over 500 hours of Standalone under my belt I still choose to wear civilian clothing a good portion of the time. Sometimes it has influenced people to not shoot me on sight and other times it hasn't. That's just DayZ. I do feel that wearing head-to-toe camouflage all the time and skulking around definitely makes you look like more of a threat. Anyways check it out if you like.
herrjon 478 Posted May 27, 2014 You're on to the right track with the clothing, but it could be better. Of course the KoS folks will shoot regardless, but others are subject to color psychology, meaning you want to stay away from reds and oranges as these are more of warning colors, and people seen green and black as threatening because you're trying to hide. You want to stick with blues as well as lighter colors like tan, beige, grey, and white, or even just light blue. If you have a female character you can get a pink hoodie by putting on a red hoodie. My recommendation on the clothing is to not be so dark and rich, go a bit lighter. Swap out that black assault vest with a khaki or olive one, and get blue or tan pants. Maybe find a different shirt as well, not such a rich blue, maybe a blue hoodie or something. I personally don't care for the UN helmet myself, but that's fine. I personally don't were any headgear at all or go functional with a head lamp. Oh yeah, and get rid of the gloves until it serves an functional purpose. In terms of what to do or how to act, I personally don't carry any weapons at all when interacting with randoms on the coast, but that's just me. I'd say keep the rifle shouldered as even holding it is considered hostile, but you can pistol whip in emergencies if need. If you run into someone, engage with your voice and disengage with your body, i.e. be friendly and light in your tone of voice while you seek cover and plan an potential exit route. Try to get folks to put away weapons and lower their hands, but don't demand it from them. Finally, find rice to hand out, and collect saline. You can go the blood route, but it becomes a mess with blood types and such unless you have a confirmed O- donor. Morphine is great to hand out as well, but will be less of a need once experimental goes live. Best of luck out there, and have fun!
