A Simple Appeal to Server Hosts and Providers

Recommended Posts

Like it says on the tin, a simple appeal.

If we can be spammed with provider adverts and nanny state BattleEye "don't give away your CD key" messages in game, would it be so much to ask for providers to set up restart time warnings?  Or even a message with standard restart times and ensure servers are restarting at those times advertised.  I know some servers do, but plenty don't.

Given that so many servers are on a rather brutal 2 hour cycle ... and many do so at a random minute and not on the hour ... restart warnings would go a long way to prevent getting arbitrarily dumped back in the game browser looking at a session lost message..

Being booted off a server suddenly when you're swapping back packs, or have just put gear down, or at any other inconvenient moment, is not an alpha test feature ... it is bloody annoying and quite avoidable.

Dev team ... any chance of making restart warnings a standard feature, or at least a server requirement?  It's not that big an ask and would do much to improve the player experience.

The servers just need to install the BEC (Battleye Extended Control) from the ACP should show 5 minute and 1 minute warnings before restart according to some providers if enabled.

Dear DayZ players,

We are glad to anounce that we are now providing BEC (Battleye Extended Control) for free with our Dayz Stand Alone game servers. BEC can be installed from your Dayz Game panel > other gaming services.

While some BEC features are restricted to match with Dayz hosting requirements you will find the Scheduler very useful to have full control over your DayZ SA server restarts. By default we have configured BEC to restart DayZ game servers every 4 hours and send a warning message 5 minutes and 1 minute before the restart. This can be edited to your liking of course.

As a consequence we are now disabling our own automatic restarts system. Please note that your DayZ server will no longer automatically get restarted until you install BEC from your game panel > other gaming services.
General information about BEC: http://ibattle.org/
Configuring the scheduler: http://ibattle.org/install-and-confi...the-scheduler/

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact us at any time. We can also be reached via support ticket 24/7 from the Support Panel by logging at https://clients.fragnet.net

Sincerely,
Fragnet Networks AB

Anyone know if there are plans to change how restarting works so like, instead of just killing the server, a manual or scheduled restart is an event where the server saves all player data and sends it to the hive before shutting down?

I need more info, that is essentially what it does right now.  Build updates may cause some changes other than that, items should remain unwiped.

Ah, maybe they fixed it then. My last few restarts though I seem to remember losing a few minutes of progress when the server went down. I'll have to keep an eye out when I play this weekend. In any case it's not a major issue at all, just a minor nuisance, although server owners sometimes abuse it by restarting when they die.

That can happen within one minute of the restart as the server is in the process of shuting down.  The result is a jump back a few meters and if you were looting loss of the items looted you were collecting when the red chain started.

BEC is the best but if not BEC, as long as you have RCon access there are 3rd party messaging proggies out there that will do the job as well. At this time I don't think all GSP's have a BEC option so admins will have to use the next best thing or just be lazy.  ;)

I have linked it in the past but will do so again for admins that may want to use it. Server Messages 2.0

Have used it myself in the past with the SA due to having no other options for server restart messages or messaging in general.

Right. I'm hoping it gets fixed eventually, because one minute is plenty of time to type "shutdown" and some admins have figured out they can cheat death like this. xD
