My dayZ experience so far

Recommended Posts

So my dayZ experience so far:
I run around for like 1 hour, searchng for stuff. Doesn't find anything special, but i manage to get enough Food and drink to survive. Then, FINALLY i find this huge building With many rooms. In there i find a bunch of water, an empty shotgun, some Food and a BACKPACK! YES. I allways freak out when i find a backpack, it's allways a lifesaver. Then i run out of the building towards the next one to find more stuff, and then after 2 second a bandit shoots me on sight. I mean he didn't even try to talk! And the servers name was something like, friendly server, speak before u shoot. Great, let's start all over again. -__-

Servers named that are traps. There are no safe zones or rules, so you need to be ready to return fire on any server at any time. I basically suspect they are titled that way to get people to run around carelessly and be killed easier. Plus they probably feel that little immature giggle joy of "lolz I trolled himz".

Once you've done this a few times you will learn which buildings are your sweet spots and you'll be able to get to loot to that level in about 10-15 minutes. You always have to be weary of other players though; never believe the servers advertising. I fell for that crap too when I first started and got my head split open with an axe for it.

You may want to run around on a low pop server and explore for a bit, get to know where Elektro is, where Berezino is, visit at least the SW and NE airfields, and try to identify the types of buildings that commonly have gear that will be useful. The square 2 story building with a circle thingy and a door on top commonly has guns and useful stuff and there's one in at least 1/2 the towns - finding those as a place to start really really helps.

Also never assume you're alone on a server, always hit "P" and check who's on. Even if you're on a low pop server exploring never assume you're alone unless you see you're the only person on the server. I thought I was fine on a server where it was me and one other guy yesterday and wouldn't you know it I ran into him - but I lived to tell the tale luckily. He was not so lucky.

Something to go along with what the others have mentioned, even on a low population server.  Do NOT run into town like a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck.  Skulk on the outskirts for about 5-10 minutes looking for any signs of movement etc.. then slowly make your way to your primary target (as mentioned you will know which buildings are key to hit) and before you go inside, have an escape route planned (does the building have a back door, any ladders from roofs etc.) then once inside, gear up and again, use the windows and doors to take a good look outside to ensure no one is moving in on your position.  Move quickly and smartly, use cover, go between buildings and by fences etc as you vacate town, not down main street waving a flag and handing out candy to the people watching you parade through town ;)  Regardless of how many people are on a server that is how I play.  Play tactical at all times (well as much as you can, we all eff up once in a while)

Oddly enough I haven't been KoS'd yet in 30-40 hours of Stable. However, played EXP for 4 hours last night & was KoS'd twice within the first hour lol.
