Will ARMA 2 be the seed of DayZ's destruction?

Recommended Posts

I think it just might be.

For anyone who's had the pleasure of reading Frank Herbert's novel Dune or seen the film may remember one of the opening lines "If history teaches us anything, it is simply this: every revolution carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. And empires that rise, will one day fall."

I was just shot in the back in Electro, no big deal I was out to kill players anyway so fairs fair and this was my 20th-ish play though.

The problem is after 20ish play through's I know the buildings you can go in, I know where the good weapons are (Cant seem to find Alice packs though) and I understand the zombie AI so as not to trigger it.... What else is their todo but kill other players?

Then, faced with another baked bean hunt I realised if I wanna shoot people why not play Tribes Ascend or BF3? ARMA 2 is a Military Similator, the combat and controls are just too clunky to enjoy PVP like you can with a game that's designed purely for PVP. Not to mention the appalling player models and textures.

I know they are planning to add more stuff to the game like different clothes for weather etc but its just seems like delaying the inevitable what do I do now? Oh lets kill other players...

As a concept DayZ seemed to bring together the simplicity of an addictive game like Tetris with the life taking over engagement of an MMO. In reality the baked bean hunt just gets a bit tedious while the final goal of PVP is ruined by ARMA 2.

OR maybe I've just played it a little too much over the last couple of days.

I would have just typed 'no'. But apparently there is a minimum length of 5 characters per post.

Arma 2 is the single most ambitious title on PC considering its niche nature, and offers more content out of the box than any other title I care to think of.

On top of that, it offers many more mods than DayZ alone, which is just the flavour-of-the-moment.

Finally, IT'S AN ALPHA!

I won't even comment on the textures and player models, as you seem to be a well-spoken troll.

Perhaps play the full, rather than free version?

What separates DayZ's PVP from anything else is the persistence. The fact that you build your character's life over days of searching and being careful makes each life much more valuable then any other multiplayer. The constant threat of being killed and having to start over makes me play completely differently then any other competitive online shooter.

Uh, the player models and textures are just fine. They are the base for the ArmA III models, that's why they are being used........ because the PMC and BAF models are better than the A2 or CO models by far.

Don't like the textures? Buy BAF and PMC.

All I see when I read "this should be based on BF3 or Tribes Ascend" is "this non-spray and pray shit is too hard".

Plenty of people are having fun with a mod in alpha state.

Btw, you couldn't do this mod in any other game on the market, so seed of destruction? Probably not. Only possible seed of creation...... pretty fucking obvious.

@Op DayZ is not only about shooting or PvP. Give it a time when new features will be added.

You might want to try other Arma 2 mods like City life, Zombie invasion, and two most important: ACE and ACRE.

Game looks great.

Game plays great.

Controls are fine. Bit sticky on walls and doors, but "clunky?" You mean kind of like how a human would be carrying around 225 lbs. of gear on their back and trying to maneuver in tight spaces?

OP if you're bored, play with friends and come up with something to do. If you can't manage that, just go play another game.

DayZ will live on without you I promise.

Arma has a bad system of trying to lift the weapon when passing thru doors adding clunkiness.Maybe Rocket could remove this so that weapons had no collision with objects.Would make for way smoother game feel. ;)

Holy fuck every post I have seen from you is border line masturbation over something Rocket has done and you pop up in every thread and insult the OP who says anything even remotely negative about a change or idea that deviates from something Rocket has done. Idk why you feel the need to try so hard to put every one down who doesn't agree with you it's pretty sad tbh.

Anyways OT, You can't expect a whole lot from an Alpha. I'm sure as time goes on tons of things will be added and changed. Right now there is not really much to do once you get a bunch of gear other than stash a bunch of stuff somewhere in tents and then go PKing. That's why I am taking a break and playing other things. After playing over 100 hours of dayz in a little over a month though I am really happy with where the game is going.

Every time I hear this quote, 10 lbs. is added to the weight lol. First time I heard it we were carrying 80 lbs.

In reality, most players in-game are carrying around 30 lbs.

And it's pitiful that people try and use realism/simulation to cover up HORRIBLE game mechanics. Climbing ladders, opening doors, cutting wire fencing, turning while in a doorway, running up hills (the magic angle where you start walking at a snail's pace), bumping into your buddy and seeing him DIE, turning into a tree and DYING, hopping down the last two steps in a staircase only to break your bones or die, inability to move while slinging a rifle over your shoulder, etc.

And I do mean "etc." I could write an essay on how bad ArmA2's interface/physics is. No one is here for that pile of shit.
