Where can I commonly find SKS ammo?

Haven't had much luck finding it in piano houses or schools, or in military areas. I'll find it once in a great while, but I've barely managed to accumulate ~50 rounds of the stuff.

yeah sometimes they are pretty hard to find. you can also check the bar and some civilian buildings. also fund some boxes there.

On a freshly restarted server I found a good 150ish rounds in one airfield run - you just gotta get there before it's picked clean, because the SKS is a pretty common gun and the ammo is in demand.

Found them everywhere, but mostly in fire stations and not packaged like Mosin rounds.

It does seem to be the most rare of all the current types of ammo in the game. However they do spawn in all the ammo/civilian gun loot spawning places. (besides the ones already mentioned: supermarkets, back of police cars, ground floors of city apartment buildings). However military places are probably the best places, especially tents (Balota tent city), as they also spawn the 10 round clips, thus increasing the chances of you finding that ammo.

 

Edit: Of course as soon as the AKM is implemented it is going to be a whole lot easier to find, since I expect the magazines for that gun to contain ammo (one of them being a 75 shot drum mag).

Bear Boxes are easy enough to find in fire stations, schools and occasionally supermarkets. I also find them in the various large houses, also check scrapyard car wrecks. Loose ammo is probably similarly spread out but I find it's harder to spot with it's colour. I tend to carry a box worth of SKS for trade as the last friendly guy I met was looking for some and regrettably I didn't have any.

 

Personally I find the hardest boxed ammo to get is .22 but the loose ammo is easier to spot. I usually find enough loose ammo and clips in the tents and boxes I do find last quite a while.

Yeah its all over the place but luck plays a big part sometimes you get lucky and find tons( yesterday i found 3 20 rounds boxes in the mil base at zelengorsk and another 2 boxes and 3 piles of loose sks ammo through the rest of the city.

 

Big question is why do you need so much ammo for unless you killing zeds with it ?? my current character has been alive for 23 hours and if i took out all the ammo i wasted on zeds( because i had just to much of it so figured id use it) i have fired 20 to 30 shots give or take in PvP based combat..
