Are melee weapons supposed to do no damage or are zombies just very resistant?

I mean I had this nice big axe on my back and felt kinda safe with it, then one Zombie attacked me...

And seriously I had to punch it so often, I felt like I didnt hit it with an axe but with cotton candy...

 

Are they supposed to take like 20 hits with an axe to the face or are some melee weapons bugged right now?

The damage taken from melee by zeds has been decreases by an error in the current patch.

It has already been solved for the next one, that we should see at the end of the month.

Body shots seem to do nothing... Have to hit em in the noggin. I have taken a liking to the hammer, it's especially hilarious in first person view. It takes about 2-3 shots to kill them but it swings fast and I find it amusing.

Last patch messed the zombies...

Aim to the head, and use stabbing weapons or machetes and such(1H weapons), its easier...

Melee damaged is fixed in Experimental...

Just roll with a one-handed weapon, I choose the machete over any melee weapon nowadays, so much more accurate and it's like 3-4 hits to the head.

To be honest, the best weapon for a zed are my fists.

I stand sideways to the zed and punch it right on his temples.

Normally it is dead after 2-4 hits.

The point is that you can punch much faster than throwing the axe and so I am more successfull with them just by using no weapon at all.

I have switched over to the machete also, but the pipewrench and hammer are good too
