Carlosrexx 4 Posted May 14, 2014 Hey guys, So, my names Carlos, I'm 27 and I from the UK. I brought Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Crackdown through Steam and got the Day Z mod, but I'm having trouble finding any decent servers. I either find russian ones (I don't speak nor understand Russian) or I enter into a totally different environment than what I have seen on youtube videos. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone list the stuff I need to be doing the same kinda stuff as say, Syndicate on youtube and other players? Thanks in advance :) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
odin_lowe 3686 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) Are you using DayZ Commander to find servers? It will be easier once you use it. Also, it keeps your versions up to date and can easily switch between the 15+ different mod variants. I think what my issue was is, I was looking at footage from DayZ standalone and not DayZ mod addon! Played roughly 18hrs worth of the standalone now and haven't had a character for longer than say, 2 hours. it's so frustrating finding weapons and bullets all of which don't fit each other.. Only then to see another player, so I get over the radio and express that I'm friendly and just wanna go on my way. Only for them to be waiting outside the door and gun me down as soon as I roll out. I had a decent amount of kit and 2 weapons plus a fire axe and loads of food. I died and had nothing after, rinse and repeat. I've come offline for a while now 'cos it really annoyed me. A few of my friends and I have banded together to form a UN peacekeeping squad as a role-play. I'd suggest you do something similar. Exactly what I'm aiming for. I realised a gaming friend of mine plays and we banded together on a server, found each other and went on our way, He basically told me to leave out any small houses and just look hospitals, fire stations, police stations and the odd school and such because that's where all the good stuff will be. So about 4 hours worth of play and I have a decent amount of kit, didn't die once and disbanded a group of 3 guys at the northern airstrip who were all hold up in the watch tower looting and stuff. Safe to say we sorted them out, clearly bandits too because I got over the mic and implied that were friendly and got a swift 'f*ck you' back. So they had to have it! I've got an M4 with dual mag, a fire axe, a combat vest, TTKSO cargo bottoms, a brown hoody, a gas mask and countless bits that I feel the need to carry. Oh and a mountaineers bag!
