Difficulties trying to use some objects

I'm having no problem in using melee weapons, eating food, or putting tablets in a bottle to purify water.  However, I couldn't find how to use some specific objects.  For instance, how do you use matches?  And the spray can?  And once you find a book, how do you read it?  Thanks.

For pretty much everything you mentioned above you need to drag the item in question to the hotbar and then press the button in question.

 

But in most cases you can just rightlick the item and it gives you a context menu, just as if you were eating.

 

To use the spraycan, just drag it over some other items. If you can spray them, the box around it turns orange and if you let go of the left mousebutton it will ask you if you want to spray that item. Items you can spray are for example:

 

Ballistic Helmets, M4, Mosin

And matches have no use currently.

Books have to be put into your hand, then readied (spacebar) be warned, the book of job has been linked to character wipes
