Things I wish were never introduced to DayZ

Recommended Posts

I sorta agree that the high level spec-ops gear really has no place in the hardscrabble world of DayZ. I like having many types of guns, but I think there should be more civilian type guns, not every high end NATO marksman rifle you've ever heard of.

Apart from him not seeing the sun probably in a long time' date=' the OP may be right on some points. The influx of high end military equipment in DayZ is huge and that is a problem. Every a-hole and his cousin seem to:

a.) Run around with NVGs, Rangefinders and .50cal weaponry.

b.) Disconnect on first sign of trouble because of the leet gearz.

It's funny how people want to defend their precious gear, stashed away in off-map camps and duped in the hundreds. This is not about balanceor teamplay, it's about your ego. Get over it.

The problem is, if you know where too look these things are much too easy to find, I have found 30+ crashed helicopters within the past 72 hours. I am armed and equipped for a doomsday that will make the zombie apocalypse blush in shame plus want to hide in a corner and cry. Once you get the pattern (and a car may be helpful but not mandatory) you can stockpile these items (let aloe dupe them) 'till they come out your ears.

Solutions are easy:

a.) Less helicpoter crash sites with Ghillies and BAF Camo clothing only there to find. Less military grad weaponry drops across the map -hangars, deerstands, barracks, crash sites, etc.

Replace with appropriate civilian weaponry - 30-06 rifles, old mosin nagats, tokarevs, simonovs and the likes, scoped and unscoped.

b.) Batteries for thermals, NVGs, Rangefinders. If you can't get in and out of a town alive while sporting a thermal scoped rifle, you are obviously doing somethign wrong.

c.) Replace the random ghillie drops with rare ArmA2 vanilla Hunter skin drops in barns and supermarkets. These do have the upper part of the body camouflaged but you need to hide the lower part of the body. Replace camo clothing drops with Chedaki or NAPA skin drops in civilian areas.

These "skins" are all in the game already, just a question of looking in the editor.

I completely agree, hopefully we'll see some dynamic changes such as these in future patches. I suggested more civi weapons and a quality system. We have a long ways to go, and Alpha's are all about suggestions and game play changes.

Don't suggest "realistic" additions if you're so out of touch with reality.

Seems to happen a lot on these forums. :P

Other than that the general direction the OP is pointing to sounds good.

Batteries FTW!

Want to know the truth about pvp?

It's a sniper fest. Simple as that. The only place you have a chance of a real gunfight is electro or cherno. You want to survive up north? Find yourself at least a CZ.

Anyone who responds to this saying "oh i killed a guy in stary with a akm and he had a enfield" yeah congrats. You killed a noob on his first time in stary.

The real pvp players all use sniper rifles.

Yeah i have tents up north with heaps of gear but am not using them. I have resorted to running around electro/cherno trying to find a tier 1 weapon to have some fun.

Sniping needs to be niche not the mainsteam.

Sniping needs to be niche not the mainsteam.

But if you make high level loot and pvp the end game (as it is) then how could snipers be anything other than common?

Unfortunately it has to do with the map itself. Massive map, long distances between players....

Sniper rifles should in themselves be extremely rare.

Eg. You have a team of 5, the fact that one of you even have a CZ should be like 'Fucken aya we got a sniper!'

Not ok lets hit up NW, we got a 2 DMR, a M107, and a BAF. The other guy with the Bizons go search the barracks. While we cover.

This is not fun game play.

THIS GAME IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE BALANCED....

It's about who got best gear = win or get the gear or stay in cherno where there is less grass

There is no = win

Gucci gun grinding is killing the game. I'd get rid of all western guns and deplete ammo by 90%, and then let all spawns be equal for gear except special items like GPS or field gear that you need to survive.

Wtf are people doing running around with 500 rounds of NATO 7.62 for their M240 anyway? Are you planning on fighting off a human wave?

I've never been in a real life barracks that just has ammo and guns all over the place so you can junk that too.

I don't care about the ghillie suit to be honest, beyond 200m you look like a rock but a funny looking rock so I'm going to shoot you, and you stick out like a giant dildo in town, that's why I've shot 3 people with ghillies because you don't blend into walls very well.

IMO one of the biggest problems is the ease of loot hoarding, which renders the intended-to-be-rare weapons common among people who practice server hopping and other loot-farming techniques. I legitimately found NVG's once after 10+ survival attempts over the course of two weeks, I've also found an M107 once, and a ghillie once or twice. Actually finding this stuff legitimately is one of the most thrilling experiences in the game at the moment (or atleast I think it is), and it really makes me value my characters life a lot more.

Just nerfing spawnrates or removing the items doesn't fix lootfarming/-hoarding, which IMO is what really breaks these rare items.

With that said, I think heli crash sites are too common, and the game could use more civilian weaponry.
