Are transmitters not in the game anymore? Do walkie talkies function the same for trolling?

Are the transmitters gone? Can you troll with two walkie talkies the same way?

 

Hello all. I've been searching everywhere for a transmitter to do some trolling but cannot find one. I read that transmitters were taken out and replaced by walkie talkies, is this true? If so, is it the same process setting up walkie talkies for a troll as it was with transmitter? Or does it not work without a transmitter?
