Am I the only person who dislikes vehicles?

Before somebody blows a gasket, no, I'm not suggesting they be removed. I just don't personally see what the point in using one is. Sure, the speed and storage is nice but you can hear the damn things from so far away that you're essentially broadcasting your location to every player within a thousand or so meters to come and murder you, so they seem impractical to use outside of maybe clans using them to come pick up their buddies on the coast. Driving them around to loot attracts way too much attention from what I've seen. I feel so stressed out every time I'm driving one that it's almost a relief when they do inevitably end up getting stolen.

I dislike using vehicles alone. Which is why I never try to fix them up and use them by myself. If I want to go driving around, I'll either get some friends on or run around Cherno/Elektro telling people I have a vehicle nearby that I want to repair/drive around, get a group going, and go do shit.

Did you not read anything else in the post? Yeah, they're fast and have storage. They're also prone to getting stolen no matter how well you hide them and they alert everybody nearby. I wouldn't ever want to store anything overly valuable in them.

It's really not difficult to figure out where somebody in a vehicle is heading if you hear one pass on the road. The way I found my first one was that I beelined straight for the nearest town after hearing its engine from about a mile away and managed to shoot the two people in the back and then steal it. I ditched it in the woods the next day because I got tired of attracting gunshots from halfway across the map, though.

I found a few camps last night. One with an atv, another with 2 tractors and a gaz.

Took the atv for a spin off road. I don't know if it's something to do with lag as I was playing at 250 ping but I could get off and run just as fast. Rather do without the noise and cloud of dust it leaves behind.

Ditched it after 1km and shot it up.

Only drove a vehicle once:

Last time I died, I respawned near Cherno by the docks.

Crap. I hate Cherno. I really hate Cherno. Walked about one minute, skirted the cranes, and a nice ATV was sitting right in front of me. I have no idea where vehicles are supposed to spawn, so I immediately think this is obvious bait. Some sniper on those buildings is going to brain me if I get near it. I was about to sneak (over ground that had as much cover as a mall parking lot, so 'sneak' is a relative term) around it and thought, "What the hell. My last character lived a long time. Who cares if this one is short?"

So, I scurry over to it and find it's in good shape and has plenty of fuel. I hop on and blaze through Cherno as fast as I can. I figure I'll have some fun before I die and then get 'serious' on my next life. So, I haul ass through the middle of town. Pass hordes of zombies and a couple of players that didnt even shoot at me. I almost ran one guy over near the hospital and I hear a couple of shots as a speed away. After a couple of runs across town, I realize: I'm still alive! Didn't plan on that.

So, I figure I wouldn't tempt fate a third time, and I carefully cross the railroad tracks and tear off west out of town and then north towards Kozlo expecting to get blasted off my new toy at any second. Followed the power lines west with Zeleno in mind. When the fuel got low near Drozhino, I ditched the ATV in the woods and I was on my way. A trip that normally would have taken me a couple of tedious hours was done in minutes and I was soon looting to my heart's content at the supermarket in Zeleno.

I'm still on that 'life' and it's been one of my longest, most active streaks yet and it all started with what was essentially a suicide attempt on an ATV.

That ride through Cherno was awesome!

I get so excited when i find a working motorcycle or atv that nothing else matters but zooming accross the map until i run out of gas. Life is too short, especially in dayz...

Vehicles have limited tacticool uses. Picking someone up on the coast for fast reinforcements. Using them for fast flanking.

The vast majority of the time, however, they are more trouble than they are worth.

I enjoy having vehicles makes having a camp worthwhile and its sure fun ripping from your camp to any point on the map in 10 minutes with all your buddies to loot whatever you want, make as much noise as you want then rip off.
