Teamwork mechanics to give a reason for non lethal interaction.

Recommended Posts

I think it would be cool to need to interact with other players in the game (without killing them), to achieve certain things.

One way it could be done is with weight, volume and fatigue, e.g. when looting with a group you can share the load and therefore move faster and travel further before you need a rest.

I hope they implement something like that, and this leads me to what I'm really interested in.

Let's assume we're getting building and vehicles in this game. You could have certain actions that require two or more players. E.g. when constructing buildings or flipping over large upside-down vehicles.

In the Epoch mod you build walls and happily swing them around by yourself with no problem, but irl they would be very heavy. What if you needed two players to move one of them? This way, to make larger constructions than say a shack or tent, you would need help from other players. I imagine having to move slowly with them as well, making you vulnerable while building and also making every additional person you can find to help a real asset.

If you like playing as a good guy, you could search for trustworthy people and make friends, or literally pay people peanuts to work for you.

If you like playing as a bad guy, you could capture Bambi slaves to do your building/heavy lifting.. and maybe heroes would try to rescue them from you...

I know, I'm a dork..

And such restrictions would cause people to teamwork, just not with random people but with their team. Just like it is now. I see no reason to cooperate with strangers most of the time. If I am fully geared they are a risk and I don't need anything from them. Communicationbarriers usually are a problem too and then there is the immense skillgap that does not make it attractive to pick up strangers most of the time.

You seem to be assuming that most people are soloing, but infact most people are roaming around in duos.

Are you a statistical analysis specialist for the DayZ development team?  How do you "know" this information?  The fact is.. you dont know.

I know a lot of people who enjoy going around solo.  Some want to play with people but they dont have a crew that they can coordinate a play schedule together.

Some of my best time in DayZ have been experiences i had with random people.   I hope they add many more cooperation things to the game.  Like building a barn .. Amish style.

Yes I am the statistical analyst expert for dayz, obviously. To make such statements I don't have to be though. And "some of your best times" is just as anecdotal as my claims. You think I have never teamed up with some random people? Of course I have. It still remains true that most people are grouped. After a while of playing Dayz, people tend to group up with the same people they can trust. That's why we have a recruitmentforum here, don't you think?

"I know a lot of people". Well alot is not most, most meaning more than 50%. I can play that nitpick game aswell.

I'm not against ideas that reward actual cooperation with strangers, but this Idea here is not one of those. Another artificial coop enforcement like bloodbagging.

not at all a dork sir and if you are I am too finally reading a post with some damn good ideas that I too have thought of. beans to you sir if I could I'd give you hundreds of them alas only one can. they are adding weight and stamina as I've heard from the kings mouth and with any luck these fucks who carry huge amounts of nothing but ammo and 2 guns will be screwed mmmmmmmif I could only taste there tears but non-the less I'm waiting for private servers myself I want to RP so bad. the public servers are a public sewer full of shit that are the folks that are playing on them and I want to rid myself of there bullshit single-minded non-imaginative low IQ crap if it was a toilet I would empty 100 shotgun shells into it and be done just burn the house down and start over. I'm starting to think the fundamental flaw the king was talking about is us players not the game or any mechanic that we are the flaw our mind-set or playstyles hell I mean this cat wants to leave to start another MMO so he says still looking for the perfect multiplayer game well he's not going to find it hear with us. we gripe we whine we threaten we kill we are unpatient we demand we are losers and pathetic at best sorry if the truth hurts use a bandaid to stop the bleeding and if you want tell your mom to kiss it and make it better.

" Another artificial coop enforcement like bloodbagging."

Blood bags are something that will affect whether you live or die, whereas being able to create or manipulate larger scale objects with other people's help is not essential to your survival. So it's not really the same.. it's not an "enforcement" because you will never have to take part in that activity to keep your character alive. It is rather a group activity which you could not realistically achieve alone.

Concerning basebuilding wooden construction should be very hard to be achived by a single person.

Cement constructions, should be made impossible for on person to finish. How to achive that, you say....

Like Wurm of course :D

Your wordsalad is a pain to read, I shall disregard all who despise interpunctuation. Also, why the bitterness? Ease up. If you have yet to see clanbattles, you didnt play that much eh? Usually its about 3vs3, bigger sizes like seen in the mod do not show up as often somehow.

I also don't see how you can despise the only goal actually available right now in the alpha: hunting armed men.

@Linden: It's not really believable that you can not inject a bloodbag into yourself, but have a teammate do it, hence artificial.

Certainly what you suggested is not essential (and so isn't bloodbagging)*, but as I mentioned earlier, people are already teamed up most of the time, and be assured that repairing a vehicle that you found somewhere will take a team to assembe, because of the sheer amount of parts it needs and that used inventory space. I assume you have not played the mod yet?

But for me this boils down to the mainproblem. If you have no vehicle or building to assemble, there is still no reason to engage with other players in a rewarding way. Esp if the experience is unejoyable because of microphone issues on the other side and languagebarriers and, in my case, low willingness to have newer players around me. (I've had my share of guiding newbies)

*bloodbagging not essential because: Most of the time you are dead, not wounded. (BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS?! ARE YOU THE EXPERT!?) Yes. Because I know how few people escaped a firefight with me and how quickly they are over.

"as I mentioned earlier, people are already teamed up most of the time"

This isn't a problem, you don't have to start out as a solo player to benefit from this idea. The point is to have something meaningful to do together that you actually need each other for, and perhaps if your group is small, finding additional people could speed the process up for you. Repairing vehicles in the mod can take a lot of parts depending how broken it is, but one person can still carry many parts by themselves, and given enough time could repair it alone. Same with building.. you need a lot of resources but you don't need another person.

But for me this boils down to the mainproblem. If you have no vehicle or building to assemble, there is still no reason to engage with other players in a rewarding way.

Yes, we are waiting on more things to do apart from shooting each other. Once these features come along I hope there will be some teamwork opportunities that give us a reason not to kill everyone we see, and an incentive to try build a survivor community.. or a Bambi work camp.. either way. The potential crazy situations that could come out of trying to gather a group of survivors and getting them to cooperate is exciting. This is what my idea is about.

I honestly can't think of a proper feature to promote coop myself, so I can't blame BI. Maybe that's what Dean meant when he said that DayZ has an intrinsic flaw in its concept.

Cool video thanks   I don't know if I could handle that level of detail in building with levelling the land and everything lol. I wonder if we would be able to stockpile wood and things out in the world like he did? I suppose server restarts would get rid of it all.. which is a shame. Would be nice to have people's loot stashes/resources you could stumble across and rob.

are you saying vehicles will make folks co-op BS I tell you they will ambush and kill and steal your vehicle which will only increase the KOS deathmatch mentality.

Probably, but while assembling a vehicle you have the opportunity to get to know people and a common goal. Most people then will be your allies after assembling a vehicle together. However, if they have friends anywhere else on the map currently, they are most likley to betray and kill you.

I can't help but wonder how a group of players would react if someone claimed they had O- blood when they were being held up.

(O- blood can be successfully transfused to any donor with no risk)

If it was a large group, would they attempt to enslave that player in some kind of twisted vampiric way?
