Super zombies/different zombie types

Recommended Posts

How cool do you guys and gals think it would be if there was some kind of Super Zombie in the game? Maybe, as a server setting every so often one would spawn in and wreak havoc throughout the land, perhaps it could be really loud to warn people or maybe lightning could signal its arrival.

Being super, hard to take down, fast and strong and maybe it can open doors or smash them down(when zombies can't just run through them anyway)

I think it could be a great feature, it would encourage people to work together and take it down rather than just kill each other and it would also be a nice challenge for solo players, you would feel epic if it came up saying "Player X has slain the super zombie single handedly!"

And maybe it could be attracted by dead bodies so if some player has just killed a few guys it's going to come near them, or if there's a group of people you could kill one and the zombie would go to them while you watch the bloodbath from a roof.

Making it have non exploitable AI would be hard though but breaking down doors and not falling through stairs would be good enough.

Failing that, typical zombie types like spitters or howlers that attract more zombies. Would that be cool?

After a while zombies become a complete non threat so different types like that would be great in my opinion. And of course there could be servers with standard zombies or only super zombies etc etc for people who just want to kill each other.

I hope it's not just going to be standard zombies in the end game anyway if they add different ones it will set the experience apart from others.

It would not be a bad idea but the whole breaking down doors thing will not work. The door models and with the way RE acts....it wouldn't be possible (afaik).

You mean like that thing with the lab coat in Origins? Patient Zero I think he was called. Not sure if I'd want an extra strong zed, but I'm all for different types. Give us zeds with a missing leg, which crawl and perhaps zeds that hop like some of them in the mod. Also zeds with armour should be a chore to kill. Maybe some that are even stronger than that. The Chernarussian crowd control units in cities maybe? They have armour all over, no weak spots (except the visor, but make that bullet-proof for gameplay purposes). Then we'll have extra strong zeds in cities and military areas. Mostly I think we need more of them, though, rather than different ones.

Stuff like that too I was going to say about ones missing limbs but didn't want my post to be too huge.

And I guess like Patient Zero(never played that mod)

Yeah, I'd like a super one more but just a lot more types of them would be good enough armoured ones sound cool you find tons of ammo in the game but the only thing to use it on is people since one headshot does it for zombies.

I agree about more although not until the hit boxes and them going through walls is fixed fighting 10 you can't escape from would be awful.

When they add functional animals in infected dogs and things would be cool too, perhaps even the occasional bear, infected or not.

I think Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare had the kind of variety they need to add just somewhat more "realistic" ones.

Well I'm sure they could change them to work that way, maybe some doors could be breakable like wood ones and metal ones not breakable. Or maybe the zombie is just smarter and can open them nicely...

I don't mean break the door in to pieces exaclty just take it off to the point where it's on the floor, if they can function well enough to open like doors they should be able to fall down once they develop the physics more.

Yea, true. :3  Off-Topic: Neferpitou was a good character. ;)

Nah... I'm good.

They've stated that they're not interested in super zombies, and are set on implementing a variety of zombies based upon "authentic" properties.

Super zombies are pretty laughable if you ask me, but to each their own. Made L4D scary, that's for sure.

Sprinters (the majority), shamblers (the minority), crawlers (the rare outlier) should be all they need. Up the damage, tune the stealth, make respawning less insane, up the numbers again significantly, implement wandering hordes. Should be a done deal.

Except they already run through walls and are hard enough to kill.

Well I think they'd be decent to have just to try bring people together, as would hordes though I guess but they'd be easy enough to run away from or cut down with an automatic weapon where with one powerful zombie people are going to die if they don't work together.

Patient Zero could just be worked in to it I guess, maybe they could add a lab showing how the virus was made so that a more powerful zombie that's been experimented on makes sense instead of just being there for no reason.

If they were to add super ones they should be last though the other types are more viable.

I don't know about you, but every video game I've played with super zombies (including L4D) allowed me to take them down by myself. So, I think it's a bit presumptuous to think that super zombies would magically encourage people to band together.

Hordes are different, I'm talking in the hundreds, where if you fire a weapon... you had better be ready to dump most of your ammo... as they could all aggro and rush you at once. Hordes should be more prudent to navigate around, rather than fight outright.

Patient Zero, as a super zombie, doesn't make sense to me. While I potentially support the idea of finding a Biological Weapons Lab, or something, I don't think it should be such a cliche as to be attempting to produce super zombies (or ostensibly, super humans). Just a virus that was kept in storage, was accidentally released, or just a naturally occurring virus without a lab to create it.

I'd rather they make the vanilla zombies more threatening, than put distractions like super zombies in. They've been pretty unequivocal about their disdain for super zombies anyhow, so it's certainly unlikely to happen.

Well a super zombie could just have such a huge health pool that taking it on alone would mean using all your ammo so you have to either escape or find help.

I don't see anything wrong with being cliché the zombie genre has been done to death there's nothing really original in it, it would be a cool kind of easter egg to have since as of now there's nothing really rewarding for you to find.

They could also add some more weird zombies like maybe one stuck in the ground somewhere that can sort of speak "weird" occurences like that could be cool and could be something to hunt for, maybe they could have unique clothing items like a party hat or sparkly glasses.

Im kinda hoping animals fill this role to a degree. Some can be fast, some be a lot harder to put down. If they went with packs for wolfs or something then multiple fast (much faster than player) targets to take down quickly or be swamped. Or a bear could take quite a few shots to limbs /body, still be as fast as the player but kill in 1/2 hits, making him a big threat if you miss. Neither of these is confirmed or anything, but they did mention dangerous animals at some point,so I can but dream :)

That would sort of add what you would get from superzombies, but in a more subtle way. Like katana said some variation in the zombies should be enough to make them convincing but not "un-authentic"....if that makes sense lol

So yeah....sry...not for superzombies, but maybe theres another way to achieve the same thing that the devs will go for :)

Agreed, I'm interested in seeing what they come up with whenever they get around to putting in offensive/hostile animals.

Something like Red Dead Redemption would be fine. Save for the fact that it was insanely easy to bag bears.

Yeah bears in RDR were pathetic.

I guess what could work is, hordes of zombies in towns and bears, wolves/dogs etc in the wilderness. Imagine how cool it would be if you could lure a bear(or zombie bear whatever) to a town to take on a horde for you? That would be epic.

My general idea here is just to get people to work together and/or make it more interesting, maybe all the good gear should be in cities usually there's just minor stuff and everyone runs to airfields. So when you go to a city you have to work your away around a horde to find good medical supplies or guns(weird that you find hardly anything in the actual hospitals right now)

It is fun to play but once you get all pristine geared up...there's not a lot left other than killing people when you have everything surviving is simple.

I think spitters could possibly be the best inclusion as far as actual zombies go, perhaps rather than acid or something typical like that what they spit at you seeps in to your clothes and makes zombies notice you a lot more? Meaning you have to find a way to wash them, get new clothes or perhaps spray them with disinfectant.

That would add so much tension to being stealthy, spitter gets you then you have a horde after you.

Working stealth weapons included it would bring a great element to the game.

Zombies atm are super zombies thanks to game mechanics and lag etc. Nasty to kill, and I dont want to see more "hp" added to them, it just doesnt seem right. I would prefer seeing zombie dogs (or animals in general, like mentioned) and different states of zombification instead (faster + stronger fresh zombies, slower, weaker but headshot requiring rotters and so on).

But I agree with the idea that zombies could have more features, like calling others by groaning loudly (feeding groan).
