I need to reinstall Arma 2, how do I make sure I don't lose my character?

Your character is stored on the hive server. You can't delete it even if you want to.

If you want to save your user profile, which contains all of your keybinds and settings, backup the ArmA2 and OA folders that are in My Documents. However, if you're just reinstalling the game, I don't think the installer will even overwrite those.
