Zombies take tons of hits

While playing the standalone I've noticed that zombies will not die as easy as the wiki said they do...I've had to hit them numerous times for them to die, the wiki said that with the fireaxe it should be one hit to the chest/head. Plus most of the time the zombie knocks me unconscious before I can manage to kill it. Can anyone help me and tell me why this isn't working properly, or is it just a bug?

In the recent update they made the zombies harder to kill (aim for the head).

1. Aim for the head (or even slightly above)

2. Never stand in one place.  I always run around a zombie, they hardly ever hit me (like 5% of the time)

Head-shots with melee weapons are now a must as they'll take 6~8 body hits to go down with a fire axe. I have managed to 1-shot them in the head with a fireaxe a couple times, but usually a head + 1 or 2 body shots does the trick.
