I've come to dayz through the standalone, and learned about the mod through that.  I think I'd enjoy the mod more just because of all the features it already has.

 

The "index of helpful threads" sticky can probably help me, but my main question is how to get dayz mod up and running.  Since the stickied thread and its links are going on two years old, I wanted to make sure the information is still up to date/relevant.

 

I've gathered a little familiarity through frankie's videos and I've played the standalone, but if there are any other tips/suggestions, let me know!  I'll definitely be reading around here in the meantime.

The info is still up to date. Get DayZCommander, and install the Beta patch for Arma 2: CO and the DayZ mod through it. You can also get custom versions of DayZ through it, such as DayZ Epoch.
