Confused dayz fan about updates roll out

Recommended Posts

Okay I am bit confused at the moment, I enjoy playing the game and having fun playing with my mates. The thing that is bugging me is the way things are updated at the moment. Yup "its alpha" will no doubt be said and bugs are expected and I am fine with that but I am confused by how they get updates out.

As an example :-

  • Binoculars not functioning properly in crouch and prone states.

So that was in the patch notes for stable, so why not leave it on experimental to be tested and then when it works in the basic stances push out to stable. Why push out a bug to a stable version when they know it doesn`t work yet I don`t see what benefit they can gain from this. Just more people to say, yeah it doesn`t work and well they know that already!! If they have it working in experimental and it works in all stances as they can see by design and then push it out to stable. Then we can test it more on stable when the basics are there.

There has been others

  • zombie damage (use experimental to polish into most people concur then push it out to stable), instead they push it on saying its to high, why not leave as is then instead of a frustrating experience for vast proportion of people.
  • Thrown objects are to slow, again leave on experimental polish and then release for more detailed feedback when they increase server bandwidth.

That is just from the last patch notes and I have seen a few times in past notes. I understand they want player feedback, bug reports etc.. but these are known bugs which I find frustrating when playing on stable. Bugs are fine don`t mind them its alpha I understand that but I just don`t see an advantage of pushing out known bugs to stable. A game as complex as this you expect them so why do this?

It seems our demand for updates has forced them into this, maybe I am alone in my views and quite willing for someone to say "yeah but this is why...." Fair enough I will hold my hand up and say yeah your right that makes complete sense now....

Anyone else find this confusing or am I alone ?

Lol. Fuck yeah the updates are confusing.  Every update has broken important immersion and feature factors of the game.   Zombies are worse ( the way they spawn and still broken), objects being rendered at distance is broken, we now have broken inventory slots, weapon hot keys are still unresponsive very often, ambient noise glitches are still breaking the game, and yet, they call these updates?  Why release updates without testing?  Or do they know the garbage they are putting out?

As far as I understood it experimental and stable are both experimental - so to say - since both are part of the same alpha version of the game. And probably the developers don't think that fixing the binoculars will endanger the performance and won't lead to game breaking bugs in the stable version. So they felt no hesitation in adding it to the stable branch.

Not confusing to me...

The game is in alpha, thus it is not finished. Therefore things will be broken, even in "Stable".

Just because the build is titled "Stable" doesn't mean it is all that stable.

However people have been screaming for binos since December and thus many are happy to have them even if they only work when you stand up.

lol". They dont assume anything they do will cause problems and just release updates thinking the game will be better.  They have been wrong on every update since december.  What you said is exactly whats wrong.  I dont blame the developers, they just need more help and resources.

That's a fair point when it comes to small issues that don't make the game worse, but OP is right about things that they've introduced that have broken essential features that used to work fine, for example:

- Melee weapons being over-nerfed (the devs admitted they only meant to make them a little bit weaker)

- Sound bugs becoming much worse - breathing problems and louder looped samples that now make a whole dimension of the game virtually unusable unless the sounds are gunshots

They found out about these on experimental yet they chose to ruin these on stable too just so we could get an unfinished physics system and unfinished binos? The costs of bringing in these minor fixes are big bugs that have hurt important features that already worked in the game

What game are you playing to not know DayZ SA has had more of its features and playability broken since December?  Or is it that you have only played Big Rigs game so you think this Alpha improvement is acceptable?

features and playability <- then tell me, which exactly got worst since december? there is only one thing i can tell, this is bulletimpact after 100m. everything else got improved.

dont even know this big rigs shit. - the only problem with this alpha is, that guys like you are to impatient. the game as it is (content etc.) is moving forward and dont forget the fact, that they told the beta wont release befor end'14

Fair enough. But, other things did get worse.  Zombies now spawn in a game breaking, fake way.  Have you not seen them ontop of impossible buildings?  Inventory slots in our bags are now mysteriously unusable/broken.  The ambient noise glitches have worsened which breaks the immersion.  The fact that many serious issues like zombie collision and weapon hot keys being unresponsive have been ignored is in my opinion, a step backwards given their 4 months time and 40 million dollars in revenue.

rocket tried to explain the other day, that when you add something new to the game architecture, you barely have assurance how it will interact with existing parts. And probably with adding these new mechanics they tweaked others unintentionally. I imagine it like a rubiks cube. You know how to do it but sometimes it just doesn't work out as you intended. Maybe not the best example but as close as I can get.

But why release the broken updates for the world to see what has your name on it?   Why not test the shit out of stuff and just release a month later?  I make jewelry on the side that sells in an art gallery in Alaska.  I dont send pieces to them unless Im satisfied with them. Sometimes I send 5 designs a month.  Others I send none because I was not happy with my product.

yeah the zombiespawnlocation isnt that gamebreaking. got the same issue with the inventoryslots, i made the experience, that these slots are blocked by items which dissapeared cause of desync or similar. after 1-2 minutes they reappeared and everything worked good.

but you have to understand, that this is a sideeffect, which happends, if you are forced to put new content into the game, cause community is waiting impatient for it.

yeah that 40 million thing, sure they could invest this money better on some places. but i ve also read that they are building a new office, so they have more space to increase the team.

This sentence distracted me from the topic. We have to be close friends from now on. :D
