More survivability, less deathmatching

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see DayZ as a surviving game rather than a shooter.

I beleive, punishments or limitation are stupid.

The only way - to increase motivation to explore, raid and survive rather than to camp places or play deathmatch.

Here is my suggestions, assume this as consistent set, sorry if some was discussed.

* No endless equipment. All items from hatchet to vehicles have durability. Durability can be restored by toolbox, but toolbox is not endless too. The more complex item the faster it has ended. Vehicle faster than sniper rifle, both faster than MK, hatchet probably most slow .

* Ammo should be much more rare. Every bullet is important.

* Good chance to get broken equipment from dead player. The more rare item the higher chance. No loot after short period of time.

* Better chance for a good loot at night. Night servers are empty now.

* The longer player is alive the better loot chances he has.

* Completetly remove night vision and GPS, no more satellites, no more batteries on the Earth

* If player does not move for a long time anywhere inside or close to a town or village, zombies will come.

* Never see character name through tree or grass when targeting, don't make camper's life easier. Can be seen if clearly on sight only.

* Personal reputation, a kind of marks for known players (bad and good)

* Add maps

Regarding to re-enter:

* No equipment spawning if player logged in too close.

* Spawn equipment after zombies. Now you can pick up loot just after logging in without any zombies around.

So...you want to make it more punishing?

Definite no to broken guns and stuff. Absolutely don't make ammo any more rare than it is, I can't tell you how often I'm running around with an A5SD, AK Kobra, etc, and have no ammo. If you remove night vision, no one is gonna play on nighttime servers no matter how good the loot...I could go on. I think you've got a good full head of steam thinking outside the box, but this is a little overboard.

I like the personal rep idea, I like new maps. I LOVE the longer alive = better loot idea too. But so much of this makes for such punishing gameplay...

Durabilty = no. I doubt peoeple would use anything long enough for it too break, unless it was something like Fallout 3 where your weapon breaks after 40 shots, which is dumb.

Ammo is already suprisingly rare.

Night having better loot has no point, as you CAN NOT see, and lights just tell every bandit where you are

agreed, game is too pvp focused right now. i'd like to see all military weapons removed altogether and replaced with a civilian arsenal.

main weapons for players should be handguns(need more varieties) and melee weapons. civilian shotguns/rifles should be rare - basically replacing current military weapons.

military weapons would then be extremely rare with hard-to-find ammo. also ridiculous guns like the .50cals and lmg's should be removed entirely.

pvp should be based on strategy, tactics, awareness, etc - not who has the best gun.

Dropping the spawn rate of ammo is a good idea. If you make ammo a bit more rare, then people may be less likely to kill you instead of letting you go about your business. It doesn't have to be a drastic change, but enough of a change to test to see if it works.

Something has to be done. I have met ONE friendly person who had a gun in four weeks of playing. That is a serious issue.

Surviving other players who have better guns then you is part of a PVP survival game as it turns out.

1. No , although I would comprimise at having some weapons spawn at different repair levels than others , just not degrading , I can't tell you how frustrating Dead Island and Far Cry 2 were because of that mechanic.

2. Sure , making the game harder is always welcome in my books.

3. Eh , sort of. Maybe a 10% chance for an item to be broken , but that amount doesn't change depending on the rarity.

4. No. Unrealistic.

5. No. Unrealistic. There is already a system for this , it's called following the compass north.

6. Meh , no. GPS and NVGs are good endgame equipment , taking them out would mean less playability.

7. No , unrealistic. I would expect the opposite.

8. Yeah , sounds good.

9. No , unrealistic.

10. Eh , I'm pretty sure maps are already in game? If you mean new game maps , I'm up for that , just not Takistan , snipers haven.

11. Sure , sounds OK.

12. Yep , although most of the time this is the case from my experience.

Thanks for responses.

Let me clarify the meaning.

There are no punishements. Only motivations. If someone wants to hunt he will. Not so easy, however.

Regarding PVP - it is not PVP game. You may kill or be killed anytime and anywhere. But this is not a goal for the most players. Survive!

Ammo: think twice before shooting. To kill player, to hide, to sneak, to kill zombie - this must be your important decision, with its own price. Not just a pew-pew.

Why duration? Have you heard about camp with all possible loot? Game over. If someone is killed, he runs on [friendly] server to his camp and ready again. No reason to explore and look for things. Surviving is every day process.

Night is very atmospheric, but servers are empty. Yes, you may be just asleep at the night. But if you go to explore the night, you want to get something especial. May be exclusive.

Agreed, some things looks imposible to implement now. But who said never?

I played Fallout:new vegas and dealt with hardcore survival in it.

Durability is a somewhat fun idea but seems outside the range of design in this ARMA mod.

I could be wrong as rock did add merging partial clips I think but from a coding/modding view this idea seems REALLY complicated.

Actually night time is extremely easy to play at. Pickup a chemlight and just avoid shooting, if you aggro zombies, just run in a straight line out of town. When it's just starting at night though being pitch black can be problematic, but it's still really easy to just throw a flare.
