Disk Write Error While Updating

So I seem to have a disk-write error while patching...my initial reaction is to un-install/re-install...  I'm safe doing that right? My character is stored somewhere else? I won't lose my guys?

Wont lose your guys but if you tweaked any of the configs you'll lose those.

Your character is bound to your CD-Key, so you will not lose anything, even when reinstalling on a new computer. Make sure to start Steam as Administrator if you have problems installing patches.
