night-time darkness fix

Recommended Posts

why not make it so there's always a full moon at night, because i'm almost certain nobody cares if the in-game moon cycle is the same as the real one, plus when it's a full moon in game, you can actually see pretty well. Still doesn't beat daytime, but as long as you have your video settings set correctly, its actually playable.

Having players eyes adjust to the darkness over time would probably be the best solution to nighttime being pitch black. That would also give suppressed weapons better use at night considering they don't have any muzzle flash and can't blind you if you were to fire them in the darkness.

I won't even play in a dark server, the way that it is now. I will just switch to one that is daytime. Night vision goggles are way too rare. Flares are targets. Chemlights aren't even effective at all. Flashlights are okay, but again, another target. It's hard enough to avoid bandits as it is.

The game definately needs a solution to the pitch black darkness, either natural like the examples so far, or as mentioned in other threads, a way to repair and turn on power stations, flood lights around cities, workable lighthouses etc... all requiring player input to work, so people would ideally fix them up during the day ready to turn them on for the night. Using things like jerry cans (for gas powered/electricity generators), toolbox?, scrap metal etc... just things already in game.

I've mentioned power stations in other threads. I think it would be a cool idea and would fit with the equipment currently in the game. Flood lights seem pretty cool. We should also be able to duct tape our flash lights to guns, instead of having one or the other if we don't find a rare light mounted gun. NVG's are just too rare, and it actually contributes to a bandit mentality. Plus, making flashlights on guns more common should hurt NVG bandit vision. Maybe it would temporarily blind the player using the NVG.

I get that some things are just not realistic.. but we need to remember that this is a zombie video game. Some things need to be tweaked for the sake of playability.

The thing is and i think there have been a few threads about it, is that your eyes are quite good in the wilderness when there is no man made light. Starlight and especially moonlight mean you can see quite well. With no man made light the stars would be especially bright. The problem would come when it was cloudy.

I have never been outside though and it was completely black - this just isnt real, you can always make out something.

I can say ive been outside and that its been completely black. flares serve a purpose and for the issue with chemlights use the green ones chemlights are made to be carried inside buildings or thrown to mark paths. Dark is fine it gives us a reason to find NVGs or a car, the real problem here is players dont like not feeling safe and for that reason alone people will whine about the dark because they dont want to use a flare, chemlight or flashlight. so no leave the night how it is.

Non-cloudy nights are as pitch-black as cloudy nights in-game, Eleven. This isn't realistic at all.

I have no issue with the moon cycle, but my main beef is ^ that.
