Press Vest Ballistics Test

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I did some ballistics tests on a pristine press vest. The victim was fully healthy and had the press vest, a wool coat, and a mountain backpack on his torso area.

1 round 5.56 on front of pristine press vest = Vest goes to worn status, no bleeding, strong pulse

1 round 5.56 on front of worn press vest = Vest goes to ruined status, no bleeding, strong pulse

1 round 5.56 on front of ruined press vest = Vest is still ruined, victim bleeds and goes unconscious, steady pulse

The victim's then patched up with an epipen and a bandage.

1 round 5.56 on side of ruined press vest = Vest is still ruined, victim bleeds and dies, zero pulse, the wool shirt noticeably degrades in condition.

I didn't have a UK vest to compare the stats to, but apparently the press vest does do something against ballistics. WOBO did a video testing the vest with punches and said it didn't offer more protection than any other vest item. We'll see.

Edit. Managed to set up an interesting test with the shotgun.

12 gauge shotgun shell on front of pristine press vest = Vest goes to worn status, no bleeding, strong pulse

12 gauge shotgun shell on front of worn press vest = Vest still worn status, no bleeding, strong pulse

12 gauge shotgun shell on front of worn press vest = Vest still worn status, no bleeding, strong pulse

The vest does offer protection, As you pointed out, when wearing it and getting shot, you don't bleed as often. I took a mosin point blank the other day, Ruined the vest ( It was only worn to start with ) Greyed my screen a little and that was it.

Riders jacket saved my life Shaeg.

Took a mosin round went through my backpack, vest and jacket. Ruined them all, but I took 0 damage and no bleeding.

I also did a test with a worn U.N Helmet. I'll tl;dr: it.

-Worn U.N Helmet blocks one shot of 5.56. The helmet doesn't need to be pristine.

-The protection applies around the entire face. Pegging a guy's face with 5.56 when he has a helmet on will not kill him.

Oh wow, can't help but feel awesome with a worn pressvest, pristine rider's jacket and helmet then :3

Managed to set up another test with the shotgun.

Spoiler: The vest is impervious to shotguns.

When ragdoll physics are in, I'm hoping that any firearm shot will knock people (and zombies) down, whatever the injury or lack of. That way, if you get the first shot in but their equipment blocks it, they can't instantly shoot back because they'll be on the floor (maybe temporary vision-blur to simulate windedness).

And even though the press vest can block shotgun pellets indefinitely, you could blast someone across a room and maybe injure them like that?
