Improving co-op play by dealing with the zombie element.

Recommended Posts

If the zombies had really good AI and posed a real threat to players do you think people would cooperate in order to survive?

Even the most die hard griefers may need to get help from players in this scenario, and it wouldn't close off their favourite play style as once they have all the equipment they need they can return to being an asshole :)

This would also stop server hopping to get geared up on dead servers, thoughts?

I'm hoping this is the eventual aim of the SA, for at least some areas of the map. Sorting out the zombies is however the most monumental task on the entire agenda, the A.I has to be spot on, along with the difficulty level/numbers/mechanism of detection etc.

It's going to be a while.

Would it incourage working together? Yes. Will people actually take the time to get to know each other before making the other suck lead? Doubtful but would be nice.

Yup, people are going to KoS no matter what.  They could be getting chased by hordes of infected but as long as they get their kill they won't care.  All that will happen is they'll just rage on the forums about the infected getting in the way of their pvp.

It could encourage temporary team ups and subsequent double crosses, hopefully. Players grudgingly working together and then a standoff when they're out of trouble, or maybe kneecapping someone to cause a distraction during a frantic getaway from a zombie overrun barracks. Two groups of random players fighting at an airfield, one group unaware that one of its members has decided to go to the other group and is about to jump ship... random grouping made the mod stand out. I'd like to see it become necessary sometimes in the SA but without the zombie threat being great enough, it's just not worth the risk at the moment.

I dont see them working together...

just alot of kneecaping...or as Walking Dead fans call it..getting Otis'ed.

It will surely end the KOS because ´´I am bored and there is nothing to do´´, and if resources are scarce, you might want to rob players instead of hitting potential loot...

There are always going to be people who just kill other people, but the least we can do is to have game mechanics which do not reward this kind of play style.

I don't have to run faster than the zombie, I just have to run faster than you.

Making you crawl just increases the differential. :P

Don't forget the fun moment, where you getting kneecapped leads to your going prone and the zeds losing track of you, while the other guy fumbles with his weapons and gets overrun, with you slowly crawling away silently giggling...

Well I guess I'll have to post what I always post in response to this:

In my experience, in the mod a version called Dayz+ came out

The zombies were brutal and would make you bleed every hit and take around 7-8 hits to kill you, and zombie numbers were increased

What I saw were random people teaming up all the time just to get off the coast, the side chat was swarming with bandits crying and not coming back to the private servers I played on

There were a few bandits who actually joined and made a bandit group on side chat and other bandit groups stuck around

It was the lone wolves that suffered, if you weren't part of a group you could easily die if you made a mistake

So yeah, it will make a difference but there will likely be more groups of survivors instead of lone survivors
