Serious question about DayZ looks and performance.

Recommended Posts

We all know how "basic" DayZ looks but that would be totally fine if the game were not so crappy in performance, with a GTX 660 and one i5 4670K @3.6Ghz I can't play the game with a stable fps it varies too much from 15 to 120fps and I have to play with objects quality on very low it make the items appear just when I'm at 1 meter from them (even in very high the distance that objects appear is like 3~5 meters) I can't even look for loot with a sniper or through a building's windows because I'm probably not seeing them because they are not rendered...

These are just a few issues related to performance and looks, I see a lot of statement on features that DayZ will have but nothing on the problems generated probably by the crappy Arma-engine and as a "investor" I'm worried.  :(

I'm not bitching I really love DayZ and I just don't think that adding wildlife is more important than solving these issues.

Sorry about my grammar, English is not my native language.

Sounds like you have a problem with your machine or config.

I have pretty much the same build (i52500k) nearly everything on high and I've not had these problems that you speak of.

I have been using the latest Nvidia beta driver and have noticed positive improvements for those of you that have a Nvidia GPU.

Moved to Troubleshooting.

Do you have a slow HDD by any chance? That would definitely cause these kinds of loading issues.

On a side note - you are not an investor, you're a customer.

"Investor", giving my money to a unfinished product so it can reach a better state when out. (My Opinion) Of course I'm a consumer because I'm still paying for a product and not just injecting money.

And there's no problem with my rig, that's definitely an issue with the game engine, using 50% of my CPU and 60% of my gpu, Cities are way to laggy and why items fade out and object quality are controlled together ?

I've also seen an improvement with the latest Nvidia driver and the -winxp launch parameter help a lot with my FPS, but the game/engine is definitely bad optimized I don't know why you guys negate that.

Anyway thanks for any effort to answer me.

"An investor is a person who allocates capital with the expectation of a financial return."

The customer/community's opinion is important to the developers, but you are not an investor.

There is definitely room for improvement with regards to optimisation, no one's trying to deny that. This is something that the devs are constantly working on and if you look at other games with similar development schemes (Minecraft and PlanetSide 2, for example) it's normal that they will not be well optimised to begin with. I maintain 95-100% load on a GTX 780, so that looks like it's a problem at your end (it might be worth checking your power options both in Nvidia Control Panel and the Windows Control Panel to make sure that everything is set for max. performance), but only around 40% load on my 3570K. The game needs to be optimised for multi-core usage, which again will be done in time and will improve performance for most users.

Okay, I understand, I will mark this as a solved issue.

I will just report an issue on the feedback site saying that I think object quality and items fade out should be controlled independently (if possible and if it was not suggested yet).

Pretty much anything is possible, they're working with the creators of the engine.

Just something that might be worth checking is your HDD('s), bearing in mind I know you don't think it's a problem with your rig.

I had a similar sounding issue when playing the Mod on my old computer, except my fps was dropping to 0, essentially freezing every few seconds to a few minutes for 30 seconds at a time.

Turned out to be a bad sector on my HDD. Stripped it out and put a different one in, then re-installed everything and it was fine.
