diepepsi@gmail.com 22 Posted June 25, 2012 When you die (to zombies), I think it would be fun to provide an option that you can choose to become a zombie or not. (Popup "wanna play as a zombie?"). Zombie gameplay would be equal to the zombies left in the world (health, speed, sight), except you can 'scream' and agro all the CURRENTLY SPAWNED zombies around you to hunt down players NEAR the screamer. You can pick if you want to be a crawler, walker, or monkey, based on being standing, crouched or prone. (so you can change around between them).Health would be equal to real zombies, so a single bullet to the head or a few to the gut would kill the player-controled zombie. Vision would be impared like you had very low health (black & white, blurred, shaking). Something so that it prevented the zombie player from having vision as good as real players, so survivors could actually sneak around them. Maybe limit their draw distance to very very low. Player Zombies would be a random real zombie skin, so when they are acting normal, you cant tell them apart from real zombies.Make it totally optional, and I am sure a lot of us would enjoy the fun factor every few respawns. Then zombie players could harrass real players, bringing in a new level of zombie boss, that of a player who may focus just on triggering zombie rushes by screaming. Survivors would need to actually take out these player-controlled zombies at distance, knowing that they are an intellegent threat rather then just AI-Controlled, if posible. Maybe give zombie players the option to medium speed run, so that they could get around at normal speeds and hence alert players by how fast the zombie is moving. As I bet, most newbies will just run around trying to attack survivors. Where vet players, will camp near good loot spawns, acting normal.Limit movement speeds to walking & Optional medium speed run, unless they have triggered the scream effect, in which case they can run/fast hop etc. When they trigger the scream command, they scream, so players know which zombie it is. Also, the other zombies rush towards the screamer to group up and search for players... but if the screamer is killed, the zombies eat him (since hes more alive then they are). So if the screamer zombie doesnt stay hidden, if hes capped, it deagros the zombies he has called unless they are activly attacking/chasing players. AKA if a guys being loud screaming around, cap him, and the zombies would rather eat him then search for the shooter. But, if the screamers zombies are chasing players before the player-zombie is killed, they keep chasing the other players rather then go back to the player-zombie. lvg 1690 Posted June 25, 2012 To be honest, can't really see this ever happening it's a mod that's about survival against other survivors and zombies, if half the server are zombies there are less survivors to interact with, and more intelligent zombies which no one wants. Soldier of Failure 14 Posted June 25, 2012 If you want to see what happens when zombies are inteligent, go play Zombie panic source. Doing this would turn dayZ into something like that, but it wouldnt be fun :
Rehclip 0 Posted June 25, 2012 Yeah. This just wouldn't work. You want to turn this more into "I Am Legend."Among the myriad reasons for not doing this, it would easily turn the game into all the zombies following a few humans, and no more zombies left to interact with without taking on a huge crowd. This would make sure its no longer a true survival game. Bungles 1 Posted June 25, 2012 The only way I'd be on board with people playing as zombies is this idea. All players who want to play as zombies sit in a que. Once a NPC zombie notices a survivor (via LOS or noise or whatever) the player is transported into that zombie and gains control of the zombie until he dies or loses LOS, or loses hearing on the player. At that point the Player is put back in que for the next NPC zombie who gets aggro'd.This would completely eliminate a perminant zombie fest but it would allow for us survivors to play against better player AI zombies for the most part & if the zombie doesn't go on attack mode and LOS is broken he imediately gets put back in que and the zombie goes back to being an NPC.So a player who wants to play as a zombie would get to have literally dozens of zombie vs survivor encounters as they come up but would only have control of a zombie for very short periods of time.Thoughts? SystemiK 366 Posted June 26, 2012 This idea becomes an entirely different game. I just dont see it happening at all. Ever.Though I'm sure plenty of other Devs are tossing around just such an idea as we speak...
Robert512 12 Posted June 26, 2012 I like the idea, but it should be a lot simpler.Once you die you should get the option, respawn as Zombie or as a player somewhere on the beach. If you decide for the latter than you get a normal respawn, flashlight and such and that is it.If you respawn as Zombie than it would only be for a limited time, like say half an hour. After that you will respawn as a new player on the beach. No need to choose the type of zombie, it would be random, if you play with the mission editor than you would have noticed that they either crawl/prone, crouch (monky type) or walk with limited speed (movement keys + shift for example), once aggro-ed they go into full speed.During that half an hour as a zombie you are not allowed to pick up anything, no gear, weapons, food or whatever. You would respawn at the place where you died, and that should be great. Sneaking towards that SOB that killed you for a can of beans to take his brains. The only difference between normal zombies is that other players should notice that player-zombies don't make noise and behave differently from the AI. The last can of course be imitated to make it less obvious. If the zombie-player gets killed or the timer runs out than the zombie-player despawns and he is spawns as normal player on the beach.
