Barricading- Will we be able to push couches, tables, chairs, and etc against doors?

Recommended Posts

I'd really like to see this. Even a game like Project Zomboid is currently lacking this feature!

In real life, I would not barricade my windows with planks until I had to. I would move dressers in front of windows, couches in front of doors, etc. Very makeshift barricades that would be rather easy to get through, but still basic enough to hide and defend your 'base'.

If a horde of zombies was coming for me, or a physco with an axe, I would rush inside a room, close the door, and push all the furniture against that door and look for a window to climb out of. I would slow the zeds or the fellow from getting through without having to nail planks to a door.

Really, being able to move furniture will also expand barricading from more then just that. Players will be able to take dressers, tables, beds, and couches, and use them to make makeshift perimeter fences. This will not only look impressive, it will look survive-y and makeshift.

Unfortunately, I fear the game will stick to things like planks being the main barricading tool. :/

We'll have to see what their physics engine can do but as much as I like the idea of barricading there is way to much room for griefing and I personally think it's going to be a bad idea.

This preety much sums it up.It all depends on the new physics engine.

But before it is implemented it very important for all items ingame to be breakable,

yeah sure you can move furniture trying to block the zombie threat, but i don't want to see a barricade

equivalent in strenght of the Fort Nox safes. That would be retarted.Making it hard to break but do-able and

diferent material should offer diferent baricate-strenght based like real-life.I really hope it's versitaile and not too restricting...

Great idea. I look forward to the first "Help - bandits barricaded me in a room" post on here.

i'd like to see the physics engine do this

however

that means turning "dead objects" like a texture of a table/bed/dresser in a house, into "live objects" that can be manipulated by physics.

the server loading and "pinging" back the status of every live object in the instance would destroy us all under the desync

i expect nothing impressive and think that the "planks" are all we're gonna see for a while.

In Dean's roadmap presentation, he explains most of it. However, I believe that you won't be able to move furniture and such. I think it will be mostly finding 2x4's to barricade or build.

Ye, as much as I like the idea I don't think it'll be manageable unless we suddenly get super servers.

Planks are fine by me.

I suspect they'll have metal sheeting and other materials, lockable doors, etc.

i think the beta will be delayed.

it is taking a week to figure out how to make the in-game clock go faster.

don't get your hopes up kids!
