Failure to communicate...is there a way forward?

Recommended Posts

After a week and some insane (and insanely enjoyable) play time as a lone survivor (no clan etc), I'm now left wanting for more and yet wondering.

The ONE major problem to me right now, above all other glitches and whatnot, which I don't mind at all, is the lack of a reliable proximity voice chat system. This thing just doesn't work whatsoever 99% of the time, for anyone I've met and the 1% of the time it does work, it just stops after some time or something.

Without the entire social aspect of this, the "run around alone, gear up, die" will probably get old after some time.

Without this entire social aspect of meeting strangers and what comes with it (without using global channels..:dodgy:), you'll end up only having nearly professional military squads using off game voice chat system (TS, mumble, etc), rushing the military compounds to gear up with military tech, and basically from a survival zombie game, end up with a battlefield 3 team deathmatch.

Question is...Is this even realistically solvable, should DAYZ start requiring ACRE to play (if more reliable), anything? Is there even a way forward on this or are we stuck in these murky waters?

edit: oh, and kudos to Rocket (and whoever's working with him on that) and thanks again. This bloody mod is sucking the life out of me! :)

I agree!

ACRE would totally kick ass!

The only problem is the TS server!

So many servers are online you'll get confused!

And one TS for all of them is a bit too much!

The only solution that I think of is TS regional.

I mean like EU will get TS, Dallas will get TS, Chicago will and so on...

And also not a lot have mics...

Don't have MICS?!!!

People, stop living in the stone ages! If you play online games, get a mic. It'll save a whole lot of headaches.

ACRE is awesome but there's already a thread(many probably) about this.

I didn't see any ACRE thread...

And yes there are people without mics.

Yup! Worked fine for me and my group for several hours last night on the three random servers we tried it on.

Please don't make ACRE mandatory for DayZ.

I've been playing on a server which requires the latest beta and I am also running the latest beta and DC still isn't working 99% of the time...

Well I didn't had any problem with the direct communication in game...

I doubt that the beta patch which is more buggy as hell solved a DC problem (that I failed to notice)

The arma beta fixes the Direct chat issue also. So get out there and start using it!

No it doesnt.

Something fixed it and since I haven't installed any betas then it must be server side, right? So maybe it's the *server* you are playing on. I've tested and verified on five out of five NA servers now. Clear as a bell, no problems.

I played a lot with the DC in many servers not only DayZ and no problem was found...

get the latest arma patch and start using direct chat. problem solved.

When more than a handful of servers start using the patch I'm sure everyone else will too.

I don't seem to have any issues with Direct Chat. People can hear me fine and I can hear them fine. Here are the issues I've noticed:

> If people talk in anything but direct chat (ie Side chat) on voice, it 'doubles' and makes it 10x more annoying.

> If people type in direct chat, nothing goes through. Therefore I see people typing out things to their group mates in side chat, easy bandit kills.

I really wish there was a way to disable voice chat in everything other than Direct chat no matter what. I don't like having to mute confused people that I might run into and need to communicate with later on.
