Too many watches, not enough compasses

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a large abundance of watches in loot piles, but no compasses, in the recent versions of DayZ. Anyone else getting this? I'm pretty good at navigating without a compass but not finiding one in 3 days of searching has never happend to me before.

Yah I've seen tons of watches recently too. They need to balance the loot table for tools a bit better.

Not sure if that is what you mean with:

'm pretty good at navigating without a compass

but you can also find out bearings with a watch. It actually works - only at night you still are without bearings.

I think he made this to compare with the real world.

find a watch inside any civilian building is too easy, but a compass....

In a true post apocalypse you'd be more likely to find a military firearm than a compass. You'd now be more likely to find a GPS as well! My house we have firearms, compass, and a GPS (to just name a few). You go to my neighbour and he does not have a compass and doesnt know how to use a map without a GPS unit (sad... very sad...). Anyhow, we have about 20 watches between us and our spouses.

I think a lot of watches and a rare compass is accurate. I'd like to see more GPS units honestly.

Dont forget where the "game" is set... do households over there have GPS around? Same for weapons. This isnt the US... just sayin'...

Yeah it's post soviet Russia. Guns everywhere makes sense, but GPS', luxury seafood, and toilets, do not.

Honestly I think this is a weird function of the loot tables. I know there have been plenty of times I walk into a barn and every loot pile has a hatchet in it, or I walk into a church and there are 6 maps laying about. Heck there have been times I was at an airfield and every single hanger and the tower had an AK 47 and ammo. Sometimes the game seems to duplicate loot spawns in an area.

As for authenticity, yes you should find MANY more watches than compasses. And GPS units should still be very rare. Think about it, GPS units may be somewhat common in America but the game takes place in Russia right? Plus the majority of GPS units floating around the world are designed for and installed in cars. A real "help me Im lost in the wild" type of GPS is pretty rare all things considered.

Thanks guys. As long as it's an intentional change, with a logical reason, then I'm ok with it. I just thought a complete absense of compasses was a bug rather than an intentional change.

I find the maps to be completely unhelpful, and just use an online map instead.

Seems some here don't realize that clouds always move west to east. You don't ever need a compass.

Actually you can find your bearings at night with great ease so long as the cloud cover isn't too thick. Just find the north star as per real life.

So many regular watches. Why are there no gold watches? I gotta get dat swag. Or just to wear every watch I collect, that would be cool too

But no, you're more likely to find ammo for an American pistol.

So you have too much time on your hands, and now you are lacking in direction?

well lets face it, the compass is way more useful, so it's harder to find. and the GPS is even more useful, so it's even rarer

it's seems many people on this forum like to appeal to some "IRL" argument in an attempt to make the game easier

You can use a watch for orienteering. Enjoy.
